Out of sync The deteriorating relationship between Police members Stewart Copeland and Sting is said to be the reason the group has announced a three-year hiatus from recording and touring. The group says it will hold a "goodbye to rock" concert in Sydney, Australia on March 2nd. After nine yearstogether, the Police say that internalpressure and fatigue of con- stant touring led them to cancel all pending engagements except the Sydney appearance. That is the question, Mel If Christopher Columbus had been content to ship cargo around the Mediterranean, he would have missed the opportunity to discover the New World. If LINKABIT engineers weren't thinking about what could be, instead of what is, we wouldn't be at the forefront of the telecommunications industry. Thanks to a cadre of conceptual achievers, however, LINKABIT has continued to set the standard in diverse and complex projects such as MILSTAR terminals, video scrambling equipment, domestic satellite systems, modems, codecs, advanced processors and fault- tolerant systems. Now, we're looking for more of the same kinds of thinkers to join our ranks in the following areas: (Continued from Page 6). Charles Durning plays Gestapo of- ficer 'Colonel Erhardt. Durning can be congradulated for graduating with honors from the Colonel Klink (Hogan's Heroes) "Academy For Becoming An Easy Espionage Target." Sasha (James Haake), Bancroft's gay assistant, pushes the homosexual movement back 20 years as he ex- claims (after being forced to wear a pink triangle on his clothes in the same fashion as the Jewish Star of David), "Oh, it's just awful. It clashes with everything!" Even Anne Bancroft couldn't get a decent role. As Anna Bronski, Frederick's bored and not-so-devoted wife, she cheats on him, but doesn't really cheat on him and, in the end, it's the audience that feels cheated. The single biggest problem with To Be Or Not To Be lies in Brooks' logic for doing what he calls, "a new presen- tation of a timeless work." What Brooks labels "timeless" is a film the original success of which probably depended a great deal on timeliness. Released to a public caught up in the effort of another world war, yet naive to the real horrors of a man named Hitler, the propaganda nature of this film alone was enough to ensure its success. physical environment. We don't need to be reminded of the Holocaust - we could never forget. And even if that was what Brooks intended, a comedy is hardly the forum to present it. So, just what was Brooks thinking about? The question seems unan- swerable, but one thing is for certain, Brooks' To Be Or Not To Be ... isn't. /l p We do a the work.
