Coming off a disappointing season, the women's basketball team will be aiming for a respectable record after last year's poor 4-24 mark, Coach Gloria Soluk returns everyone from last year's squad - except Peg Harte. Harte, a two-year starter, averaged a team-leading 20.7 points per game, set- ting a Michigan single-season record with 581 points in the process. The 5-8 forward also paced the team with 6.4 rebounds per contest last season. The junior transferred to St. Thomas Aquinas College this fall, marking the first time in six years the cagers will be Harte-less. Sister K.D. Harte also starred for the Maize and Blue from 1978-82. WE DON'T really know the impact of the loss of Peg yet," said Soluk. "We might be a better team. We do have a good nucleus, and we had a really good recruiting year." Back for another season are seniors Lori Gnatkowski and Terri Soullier, juniors Diana Wiley and Connie Doutt, and six sophomores from last year'aE fine recruiting class. Newcomers for the Wolverines will be 6-7 Lynn Morozko, of Westlake, Ohio. 5-5 Melanie Smith of Akron, Ohio, and 5-6 Chris Tuerk of Pontiac Lutheran East. GNATKOWSKI and Doutt are expected to carry the load at guard, with help from Smith and Tuerk. Last season's point guard, 5-8 sophomore Orethia Lilly of East4 Cleveland, Ohio, will more to forward, as will 6-1 sophomore Sandy Svoboda, from Jackson, who played center much of last year. Another sophomore, Wendy Bradetich of Eugene, Oregon, and Soullier will also see extensive action at forward. Wiley and 6-0 sophomore Carolyn Henry will provide help off the bench. CENTER will be the key to Michigan's4 season. "We're really looking very heavily to Lynn Morozko, who is 6-7," said Soluk: "She's going to be the first bonafide cep- ter we've had other than Patrice Donovan. She's going to have to help out right away for us to have a good season." Amy Rembisz, a 6-2 sophomore from Union Lake, will also see a lot of action, ac weull Ac a nnthn, .2 L') amib, rnn_ Wendy Bradetich goes up for a shot against Cleveland State.
