W w w Curtain raised as rebuilding By JESSE BARKIN With the pre-season behind them, the Wolverines finally enter the Big Ten tournament and the prognosis for coach Bill Frieder's club is ... hopeful. Frieder is hopeful that Michigan can continue to improve as it has thus far this season; he is hopeful that the Wolverines stay as healthy as they have been; and he hopes that the team will not fall apart after its first conference defeat. FOR THE record, the Wolverine cagers are doing well. After a slow start which included precarious wins over Central Michigan and Detroit, the Wolverines began the year with six straight victories. And after a disap- pointing overtime loss to Oklahoma State, in a game they had in the bag, the Wolverines rebounded to win their next three games which brought th conference record to 9-1. Backing up the pair -is junior Dan Pelekoudas who has season's worth of starting experience for the Wolverines. But though his experience is a plus, the drop-off in talent is extremely noticeable when the starters leave the game. After Pelekoudas there is no one. Thus, if one of the starters gets in foul trouble, the team is in trouble. Worse, of course, is if one of them gets injured. That would mean disaster. So far only Turner has had any problem, sitting out hi. the Vermont game resting 'a turned ankle. How good will McCormick be?
