"'' . are . , t 1 .~-'- >. ,- unshine Flockers Meet West Coast Rockers in a Beach-Music Blow-out! After all, what good is the beach without the sounds of surf? And keeping surf music alive and kicking, are two legends of the sound-Mike Love of the Beach Boys, and Dean Torrence of Jan and Dean. Together with the Endless Summer Beach Band, Mike and Dean have been leaving Spring Break student audiences breathless and shouting for more. SRO in Daytona Beach. Twenty thousand fans in South Padre Island. Swaying and stomping to "Surfin' U.S.A.", "Ba-Ba-Barbara Ann", and "Little Old Lady From Pasadena." "I can't wait to be back," exclaims Mike Love, "I'm really just a life-long stu- dent." Love has been the leader of the Beach Boys since the groups inception in the early 60's. Not only the band's leading singer and spokesman, he has also contri- buted to the group's popularity-by writing or co-writing such hits as "Good Vibra- tions", "Fun, Fun, Fun", "California Girls", "Do it Again". Additionally, Mike has recorded his own solo album, "Looking Back With Love," performs on tour with the Endless Summer Beach Band, and still plays an im- portant role in the present Beach Boys. Dean Torrence burst upon the music scene in 1958 teamed with Jan Berry. Better known as Jan and Dean, they were early collaborators with the Beach Boys. Their careers were halted abruptly when Jan was involved in a near-fatal accident. The televi- sion movie, "Deadman's Curve" recounted the story of the duo's fame and misfortune. Subsequently, Dean turned his atten- tion to design and spawned Kittyhawk Graphics, specializing in music-industry merchandising. He has designed album covers for the Beach Boys, Steve Martin, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Nilsson, Anne Mur- ray, Linda Ronstadt and Walter Egan. "But I can't stop performing for the college crowd," glows Dean. So he joined forces with Mike in 1982, and Budweiser sponsored a Spring Break tour. The results were spectacular: "Everyone was in a party spirit ... and the band delivered," reported the Daytona Morning Journal. The Dallas Morning News gave front-page coverage to the cheering crowd: "The perfect culmina- tion..." To keep warm through the winter, Mike and Dean and the band are engaging in a "Be True to Your Bud" college concert tour, again sponsored by Budweiser Beer. Needless to say, Spring Break 1983 will find Mike & Dean, searching out those special places where the priorities are sand, sun, and fun. Delivering two hours of non- stop entertainment to aficionados (and who isn't) of the sounds of surf rock. If you're planning a Spring Break vacation, you'll find Mike & Dean rocking through South Padre Island, Texas, on March 15 (raindate-March 16); double- teaming in Daytona Beach March 17 and the 24th; riding in with the tide in Fort Lauderdale on March 23; and taking the plunge in Destin Beach on March 31. All brought to you, FREE, by Budweiser, the King of Spring. If you do see Mike & Dean, say, "Thanks guys," for keeping the "Good Vibrations" happening.
