"I THOUGHT it was a pretty even game, we played pretty tough," Michigan coach John Giordano said. "They just got one more goal. "Neff's penalty (which led to Miami's third, goal) was a bad call - I bet is was the difference in the game. The referee was really marginal." Four minutes into the final stanza, Rick Kuraly took a pass from behind the net from Dave Wheeldon and lofted it into the far corner of the goal, giving Miami a lead that would hold up for the Kuralv remainder of the game. ..nptR two THE REDSKINS had tremendous scoring opportunities in the first period, as they rung the post three times, but higan skated off with a two-goal advantage. At 10:44 of the period, with Miami's Steve Morris in the penalty box, Patt Goff took a hard shot from the left side. Goalie Alan Chevrier stopped the puck with his pad, but Ray Duaes poked it away and Chris Seychel was there to nudge the puck into the net for an easy goal. Later in the period, two Redskins were sent to the penalty box and the Wolverines used the advantage to increase their lead. Dries, right in front of the net, tipped in a shot from Todd Carlile from the blue line. MICHIGAN, HOWEVER, failed to take the advantage fur- ther as Miami, still playing shorthanded, got on the board when Dave Corrigan collected a clearing pass from Mike 1kirwin, skated in all alone, and put the puck over goalie Mark Chiamp's shoulder. Miami carried its momentum into the second period and took the lead. Just after a Michigan penalty, Wheeldon knocked a bouncing puck high into the net after Chiamp had made saves on Joe Block's shot from the point and Dave Mc- Clintock's rebound attempt. The 'Skins had tied the score earlier when Kuraly beat the Michigan defense to the puck after a face-off and hit Morris in the center, who put it just past Chiamp's reaching arms. THE WOLVERINES kept pressure on Miami but missed a golden opportunity with 5:33 left in the second when they were awarded a penalty shot. However, Tom Stiles fanned on the penalty attempt. But Ted Speers got the equalizer just over a minute later as he fired one past Chevrier after taking Jim McCauley's pass from behind the net. The Redskins got their first sweep of the season in Miami Ice Arena, but it was a gamble by Miami coach Steve Cady that made the difference. "We took a chance, four of our players were injured. If we were on the road, we couldn't have taken them, but we thought we would suit them up for one night," said Cady. FIRST PERIOD Scoring: 1. M-Seychel (Dries, Goff) 10:44. 2.
