ARTS The Michigan Daily Friday, December Roches keep doing what By Barbara Misle. THiE ROCHES' incredible harmony T filled the Power Center Wednesday night and left admirers of all ages wanting more when the hour- and-a-half concert flew by. The concert opened with Maggie, Terre and Suzzy Roche belting out a powerful "Losing True" and the show maintained a superior level of quality that is characteristic of their perfor- mances. They sang old favorites from their first and second albums' like "Ham- mond Song," "One Season," and "Nur- ds" as well as favorites from their new album (Keep -on Doing) like "The Outlaw" and "Keep on Doing What You Do/Jerks on the Loose." After two encores they finished with the first song from their debut album, "We." Tuesday afternoon while Maggie and Terre were signing autographs at Schoolkid's Records, Suzzy talked to the Daily in her hotel room. Daily: The Roches have been classified as a "feminist folk group," do you think of yourselves as feminists? Suzzy: People have used the word feminist in regards to us and that is not us saying that. People don't really listen to what you do. They form an image of you on what they heard-oh, feminist something or other. The people who read the Village Voice and The New York Times and Rolling Stone base their entire view on everything on what those people say. They want you to know that they're cool. But to me, I'm not interested in cool, because I've seen cool and I've been cool and after while there's something other than cool to go on. Daily: What did you do before the three of you started singing together? Suzzy: Maggie and Terre made a record (Seductive Reasongin) and then quit singing, and went to Hammond (Louisiana, same one as the song) to a Kung-Fu temple. I was down there too.
