Not even the death of Soviet Premier
Brezhnev can stop the IM Touch Foot-
ball Playoffs from marching on. Of
course, this week's inclement weather
was no help to the various teams, and
readers will be interested to see that the
rankings in various divisions are taking
a little different shape this week. So.
without further ado, the Daily brings
you the football week in review.
BEAVER PATROL 12,
ARBORY PIRATES 8
In a game that matched two of the in-
dependent division's strongest teams,
the Beaver Patrol, ranked first in the
Daily ratings, barely escaped the
Pirates' trap. With less than half a
minute left in the game, Patrol quar-
terback Gary Forhan found his brother
Craig Forhan open for a 25-yard touch-
down. The Pirates had taken a lead
early in the second half on a 40-yard in-
terception return, and seemed to have
the game under wraps until theForhan
connection struck for their second
touchdown of the day. _
ADAM'S ALUMS 20, ARTESIANS 6
Bill Kramph scored all 20 points for the
Alums, including a 40-yard touchdown
reception that broke open a 6-6 game in
the second half. Nate Forbes tossed all
three scoring strikes, but will be lost to
- I
the Blue rolled over the previously-
unbeaten Destroyers. Riley launched
scoring strikes of 20, 40, and 50 yards.
Taylor Blue flanker Bob Mitchell pulled
in two of the TD tosses and Gary Blan-
ton caught the other. In addition, Riley
ran the ball for another touchdown.
Riley's TD run was on an option play
from twenty-five yards out. The stub-
born Taylor defense backed up the
Destroyers and caught them for a
safety, as Mike Miller caught the
Destroyer quarterback in his end zone.
the Alums for the rest of the season with
torn ligaments in his knee. Adams was
able to rely on their strong pass rush
throughout the game, which simply
did not give the Artesian offense enough
time to generate anything after their
touchdown early in the second half. Bill
Babcock had an interception for
Adams, which will be facing big
problems in the subsequent playoff
rounds without Forbes at quarterback.
BUCCANEERS 50, THETAS/PHI
DELTS I 0
The Thetas and Phi Delts are going to
have nightmares about John Cole of the
Buccaneers. All Cole did was intercept
five passes, returning three of them for
touchdowns, and catch three passes for
two more touchdowns. Steve Page had
two more interceptions for the Bucs
who believe that they are finally
coming together as a team. Quarter-
back Kathy Hagenian was the
beneficiary of good protection all game,
and was able to singe the opposition for
a slew of TD passes.
TKO 30, AMBATANA AWESOME 0
In a battle featuring the third and four-
th ranked teams in the Daily IM Poll,
the TKO surge was just too much for
the Awesome ones to handle. Utilizing a
fierce rush, TKO kept Ambatana down
for the count on offense, and utilized
quarterback Diane Hatch's pinpoint
passing to. rail the Ambatana
Awesome. Hatch tossed four scoring
aerials, two to Karen Pollard and one
each to Lisa Pinaetta and Mena
Reyman. TKO continues to roll after
their early season loss to Hunt A and
look forward to meeting them again
later on in the playoffs.
TAYLOR BLUE 26, DESTROYERS 0
Taylor Blue quarterback Dave Riley
ripped apart his opposition Sunday as
Golfing champs crowned
Jim Laing defeated Robert Suh in
golf match play to capture the advan-
ced portion of the IM Golf Champion-
ships. Laing, who defeated Gary Hopps
to reach the finals, led Suh by three
holes with just two to play when he ac-
cepted his opponent's concession. Tom
McDonald bombed Ken Jorae to win the
intermediate division, racing by Mike
Wehmueller in the semis. And John
Jones blitzed through a field of four to
garner the honors in the beginners
bracket.
