By Andrew Porter
A NDY BRECKMAN has predicted
that when he dies on March 19,
1998, President Nelson will deliver the
following eulogy for the seventy
thousand gathered mourners:
For the strength of his spirit, the
clarity of his vision, for the mag-
nificent faith embodied in his.
laughter, he will never be
forgotten by mankind.
At the rate he is going his prophecy
may be easily fulfilled. Only three
years ago Breckman was an untamed
comedian with a small cult following
attempting to strike success in the Big
Apple. He has since then accelerated
his career drastically. In a short leap of
time he has won 2 Emmy awards,
released two fine albums, and found a
position as a writer for the "David Let-
terman Show." He is currently am-
barked on a world tour with the inten-
tions to make it universe-wide if his
engagements continue to sell as they
do.
"Hot Hero Sandwich," the critically
acclaimed comedy children's show
featured his writings and acting. His
appearances were in the form of the
puberty fairy-a bearded tutu clad
weirdo sporting high top basketball
sneakers. Breckman left his TV
viewers on the floor in tears with his
bizarre skits and crazy ideas. One of
his most remembered depictions of
modern reality was a dramatization of
Joel rocks
Continued from Page 6)
composition that he dedicated to "all
the friends of ours who went far away."
Then the lights dimmed, helicopter
noises creeped in from somewhere
backstage, and a group of singing
roadies gathered together onstage and
voiced in unison, "We'll all go down
together." Joel's touching salute to the
Vietnam veterans, "Goodnight Saigon"
had begun.
It was during this number that one
could see just how much the audience
loved Billy Joel. He would turn from his
piano, look at a section of the massive
crowd, and receive a spontaneous
ovation just for acknowledging them.
When Joel did get to his older, classic
songs, the group went completely off
the deep end. Fans rushed the stage
just to get a closer, more intimate look
at their hero. The interesting thing

two parents scoulding their long haired
son because they found a Joint
somewhere in the household. Mean-
while, the clean cut son and true culprit
kept hazily falling into his spaghetti
.plate stoned out of his gourd.
His unusual folk music also triggers
occasional fatal accidents due to its
dangerously funny approach. His songs
contain strange twists and absurd
satires of everyday phenomena. One of
his favorites is the song about an
engaged couple's romance which is cut
short because the bride to be is killed by
a lamb which was flung off the roof of
the next door neighbor's house by a
professor who wanted to see if the
animal could fly. Armed with only a
guitar and a sense of humor, Andy
Breckman is one of the most wanted
comedians around today.
His chance to win over the laugher of
Ann Arbor commences tonight at The
Ark (1621 Hill) where he is preparing to
dig in for a long two night stand. The in-
credible line of approximately 15,000
people who began camping out for
seats when the show was announced
should be proof of his amazing abilities.
Unfortunately, there is limited space in
the theatre so those committed to going
should be cautious of tramping others
by getting there early and forming a
single file line.
Andy Breckman has been hailed as
today's best young talent and if
anybody has any doubts they are urged
to attend what will probably be one of
the funniest evenings in recent
Michigan history.
Detroit
was as caring and fun-filled as possible.
When he yelled "Motor City" with an
emotion-filled voice, he finally
displayed his much-worried about
thumbs. After witnessing what he could
really do with the bandaged appendage,
the crowd ceased worrying. Anybody
who could play "Movin' Out (Anthony's
Song)" with the driving force that Joel
released needn't fret that he's lost it.
But the fact that Joel did more than
just sing his tunes is what was most at-
tractive about the concert. During the
subdued prelude to "Italian
Restaurant," the members of Joel's
talented band acted out the "a bottle of
white, a bottle of red" portion by sitting
around the piano-playing Joel and
drinking from a couple bottles of wine.
As the show reached its climax, one
could see that Joel was getting even
more involved and enamoured with thl
audience He threw nut nme blindine
