4 Page 6-Saturday, October 30, 1982-The Michigan Daily Gallagher off-center comedy 'S 0 ALLAGHER'S opening act spilled about twenty balloons off the stage at Hill Auditorium into and off of dozens of eager hands. For a quarter of an hour, the audience played pass-up-the-balloons, seemingly unaware that the star of the evening was late. But when he did arrive-on roller skates-Gallagher stole the show with his different comedic perspectives on the way the world works. Insisting that his show was a dialogue as opposed to a ;monologue, Gallagher invited the audience to shout out ;anything that they had on their mind. Of course, war- ,ned the slightly balding comic, if what you had to say wasn't funny, you'd be ejected from your seat. As he rolled around the stage, hekept asking, "Am I the only one thinking this way?" You've got to use your 'mind creatively, he said: "If your knees bent the other ?way, what would a chair look like? ... What makes the iteflon stick to the pan?" Unlike other comedians, Gallagher's show had a theme. "American ingenuity, invention. How come we're losing to the Japs." Pretty intellectual stuff. But most of his humor was just off-center comedy gags with no appreciable structure or rhythm. "When I was in school I used to wear my socks over my shoes so when my laces came untied I wouldn't trip over them." A Appearing at Hill Auditorium on October 22, Gallagher's unique perspective on life kept the audience in stitches. 6 "Cut your watermelon with a knife? No need.. . ... use the amazing tool which is not a slicer, it is not a dicer, what is it? It's SLEDGE-O-MATIC!" 6 Photos by Jon Snow -----------------------------N$.' &.4; A
