iru Sunday Oct. 17th

over State
By MIKE MCGRAW
Don't wander down to the University
golf course with your pitching wedge in
hand this afternoon, because the golfers
will make way for the Michigan men's
cross country team as the Wolverines
host a home dual meet against
Michigan State. This is the only com-
petition for-the harriers in Ann Arbor
this year.
Coach Ron Warhurst will put his unde-
feated dual meet record on the line at 4:00
p.m. when the harriers will take the
mark at the start of the 5.2 mile course.
Its a good bet, though, that Michigan's
consecutive dual meet winning streak
will reach 12 as Warhurst expects little
trouble from the Spartans.
"THERE WON'T be much com-
petition in this race, but it will be a good
testing ground for our team," said
Warhurst "We're going to set our top
seven people to run Big Tens pretty
soon."
State has one runner, Tom Irman,
that Warhurst feels will be among the
top finishers, but overall the Spartans
have very little depth.
"I'm not afraid at all to say that we
should win, in fact it should be a
blowout," said senior runner Don
Passenger. "I think coach Warhurst's
goal is to run up the score against
them.
So those who enjoy seeing running
races in open ground, should come by the
18th hole of the golf course at 4:00 p.m
And while you're there, maybe you ca.
work a bit on those middle-distance iron
shots as well.

And another thing . . . preppies
NEVER win Griddes because Daffy, I
mean Duffy, always picks Dartmouth
Why? Dartmouth is THE drinking
school, and drinking is the real prep
sport.
Preps would bet for the school Mum-
my and Daddy went to, but those are top-
drawer colleges, and thus have crew
and lacrosse instead. (Football is for
the great unwashed.)
And if Kip, Skip, Chip, and Trip ac-
tually do get close to the stadium, they
rarely escape the tailgate party long
enough to get a peek at the game. So
even if you do summer at home, bring
your properly identified picks to the
