PULLING A false alarm which
summons a fire engine, ambulance, or
police car is a misdemeanor in Ann Ar-
bor, and it carries a maximum fine of
$100 and/or 90 days in jail.
The University also has made
"crying wolf" more technically dif-

ficult than it used to be. "Fire alarms
are enclosed with glass now," Foulke
said. "It now takes two positive actions
to set off the alarm-the glass actually
has to be broken before the handle can
be pulled."
Even students have become involved
in stopping the "jokesters." Students,
have become "annoyed with false fire
alarms because of the disturbances in
the middle of the night," said David
Schoem, director of Alice Lloyd.,
"They're more involved now, and often
report who has pulled an alarm."
After Sept. 16 false alarm in Alice:
Lloyd, the person who set off the:
alarm-not a dorm resident-was;
"immediately apprehended by several
students," Schoem said.
