The closer it gets to finals the more valuable time gets. My classes begin every day at 9:00 a.m., though I: am always done by noon. This is so I can have my af- ternoons free. This period usually sets my tone for the day. Punt team goes good today because Keith Bostic and I make a couple of nice adjustments on our blocking. Keith is probably the best athlete on our team. I enjoy playing next to him plus it makes me work harder. He's really a special guy and we've become good friends. Practice goes smooth for the next half hour. I am finding myself a little confused at wolf but I don't have time to worry about it. Scrimmage begins and I am thinking that I just have to play hard and not worry about the mistakes of a new position. A handful of returning starters is allowed to watch the scrimmage from the sidelines. This gives them a rest - just for a day. Getting roughed up Things started rough but gradually got better. I begin by missing a tackle on Larry Ricks. (Believe me, defensive back is different from quarterback). The thing about being in a new position is that you find yourself always out of position. Most of the scrimmage I found myself getting bounced around by linemen and tight ends. I now know what it feels like to get blocked by our center, Tom Dixon, on a trap play. Occasionally, though, I did make a nice play ands things didn't end up as bad as I thought. By 6:15 practice was over. I felt some relief and I was tired. I had taken some hits but had given a few also. It was a good experience for me to learn a dif- ferent position in the heat of battle. After a quick shower and a couple of ice packs we all head to South Quad for our training table meal. Meals are always good and make for a nice way to wind down the day. As I'm eating, I'm already looking forward to the next practice so that I can get after it again. ces start-when Bo blows his whistle at We gather around him to get the day's tructions and then the practice begins. oday is going to be different because e players are experimenting at new is gives the players a chance to learn ent position feels, and also the coaches me new evaluations.
