(AP) - New *ork's Butch Goring and Brent Sutter scored 41 seconds apart to cap a four- goal Islanders first period as the two- time National Hockey League champions routed the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-2 last night. The one-sided, victory, New York's second in as many nights, gave the Islanders a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.' The Islanders, who belted the enguins 8-1 Wednesday, can clinch the eries Saturday night in Pittsburgh. MIKE BOSSY got the Islanders star- ted with a power-play goal at 7:57 of the first period, putting a slap shot through the legs of Pitttsburgh goalie Michel Dion. Center Bryan Trottier was awar- ded an assist on the play, extending his Cup record consecutive game points streak to 27. Wayne Merrick stole the puck from Pittsburgh defenseman Paul Baxter nd put home a wrist shot at 15:25 to miake it 2-0, then Goring and Sutter con- nected. Goring's goal came off a perfect feed from rookie left wing Greg Gilbert, who scored his first playoff goal on a breakaway in the third period. SUTTER scored after completing a give-and-go with Clark Gillies, with Pit- tsburgh's Baxter again victimized. After Rick MacLeish knocked the ebund of his own shot past Islanders oalie Bill Smith at 5:32 of the second period, Gillies made it 5-1 with a short wrist shot. John Tonelli backhanded a rebound over Dion, then Gilbert put in a backhander 40 seconds into the final session to conclude the Islander scoring. Pat Boutette scored a power play goal for Pittsburgh with 2:56 remaining. Bossy, the Islanders' top scorer this eason with 64 goals and 147 points, sat ut the final two periods. He has been bothered by a Bruised knee. Bruins 7, Sabres 3 BOSTON (AP) - Rookie Barry Ped- erson scored three goals, all in the second period and veteran Rick Mid- dieton. connected for a pair as the Boston Bruins stormed to their second consecutive victory over the Buffalo Sabres 7-3 last night in their National ockey League playoff series. Pederson, who tied a league record with his three goals in one period, and Middleton also had two assists as the Bruins took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five Adams Division semifinal series which moves to Buffalo Saturday. THE BRUINS, who beat Buffalo 3-1 in the 'Wednesday night opener, broke away from a 1-1 tie on power-play goals by Pederson and Middleton in the first 1:04 of the second period. The Bruins, who edged Buffalo for second place behind Montreal in the divisional race during the regular season, won again with the new young sensation, Mike Moffat in goal. Moffat, just 20, made his NHL debut last Satur- day and has won four games without a defeat. With his three goals and two assists for five points, Pederson fell one goal short of the NHL playoff record for most points in a game. DALE McCOURT broke a scoreless tie with a goal at 12:44 of the opening period on only the third Buffalo shot on Moffat. The Sabres killed off a penalty a couple of minutes later, but three seconds after they returned to full strength, Middleton tied the score with the help of the first of three assists by Peter McNab. Terry O'Reilly and Bruce Crowder also scored in the game for Boston. Rangers 7, Flyers 3 NEW YORK (AP)-New York spot- ted Philadelphia a goal in the opening minute, then roared back behind the playmaking of rookie Mikko Leinonen, who assisted on six goals for a National Hockey League playoff record as the Rangers defeated the Flyers 7-3 last night and evened their first-round series at one game apiece. Leinonen, a 26-year-old center from Finland, set, up Carol Vadnais' tying goal at 1:57 after Philadelphia's Bobby Clarke opened the scoring at the 48- second mark, beating Rangers' goalie Ed Mio. AFTER RON Duguay put New York in front 2-1 at 13:47 with the Flyers a man short, Leinonen assisted on power- play goals by Don Maloney and Robbie Ftorek in the second period and also helped set up a goal by Dave Silk with 1:10 left in the period. Leinonen then set a club record for points and assists in a playoff game when Rob McClanahan made it 6-2 on a rebound early in the third period. Leinonen shattered the NHL single- game playoff assist mark when his shot from the right point was tipped in by Eddie Johnstone with 2:57 left in the game.
