A Pa e 12-Friday, February 19, 1982-The Michigan Daily Women cagers come up short, 68-67 fi} 26 re s4, (Continued from Page 1) sn't lost on one free throw." 'I thought it was in," said Dietz, who Ished the evening with a game-high points. "I'm glad they called time out cause I was nervous and needed to lax. I just shot it too hard. It put a mper on a potentially nice evening,'" e said. AS FOR THE 2,000 points, Dietz took n stride, saying that she hadn't really plized she had a shot at the double ilenium mark until a fey weeks ago, It added it was a relief to get it over nth. Michigan started out the game slowly, forcing shots and trying to keep pace with the quick Saginaw Valley squad. "Our timing is still not right," said Soluk. "With (Terri) Soullier and (K.D.) Harte out, our rhythm is off. Soullier is our sparkplug off the bench. The other kids are going to have to develop a rhythm." PEG HARTE scored 20 points and - finally got the Wolverines going mid- way through the first period, serving as inspiration for the rest of the team. Connie Doutt, filling in for K.D. Harte, and Lori Gnatkowski, playing with an injured shoulder, began scoring. Dietz, who only managed five points for the first 15 minutes, put in two quick hoops at the end of the period. Michigan still trailed, 37-32, at the half, however. Dietz made few mistakes at the out- set of the second half, hitting seven of her first eight shots on her way to the Michigan record books. However, following a brief ceremony, the Wolverines came out flat as both Dietz and Harte were held scoreless until Dietz's free throw at the end. "We were a little fatigued," said Har- te. "We were running well, but got tired during the last couple of minutes. Ac- tually, I thought it (the ceremony) helped us but it just didn't last long enough." Despite the loss, Soluk had nothing but praise for Dietz, calling her a phenomenal player and a fine lady who deserves all the accolades she receives. Michigan's next game will be a noon contest tomorrow against Dayton at Crisler Arena prior to the start of the men's game. 2,002 and counting 6 IP McGQ l" .- 4 - 7 u~ o- S THE FLIPPER CGEE RU/EME AT CO.a 613 E.
