Well, last Saturday night they went to the Slusser Gallery for the University art school's Third Annual Masked Ball. Nearly 400 art school students, faculty, and alum- ni bopped and swung to the rhythm and blues sound of Ann Arbor's Blue Front Persuaders, among 400 huge red and silver balloons strung from the ceiling. THE MASKED BALL was not just a Halloween party, however. It was an event in the European Beaux Arts Ball tradition, and the participants went all out. "Art and Architecture students and faculties were able to do outrageous things in disguise," said Urban Planning Prof. Jim Snyder. Returning student Ozora McCarthy, wearing a hat sporting "silver dollars from the earth and the sea," agreed. "When times arebad people really go all out with masks and costumes," she said. "Tonight is beautiful show of talent. There's so much originality. Besides," she added, "when you're 49 and everyone around you is dropping dead of heart attacks, you might as well go for it."
