"My first year here, I just couldn't wait For that football game against Michigan State I may be from Lansing, but that doesn't mean That the color of my blood is green But in '78 the Green beat the Blue And walking back to the dorm I knew That all of my friends would get on my case And wave that score in front of my face And wave they did, for onefull year.. Yes, the Spartans were full of cheer But in '79 we played in East Lansing And by the end of the game we all-were dancing Darryl Rogers had confused arrogance with success And his Spartan team was one big mess Our Michigan team showed them who was boss And handed them a 21-to-7 loss Once again 1could go homeand smile That quieted down the Spartans for a while Then a Spartan got smart as they sometimes do And Darryl Rogers got up and left MSU The recruits who fellfor Darryl's bait Followed him out to Arizona State- Now Muddy is the man who's hoping to Upset the mighty Maize and Blue When he gets to Ann Arbor, Muddy will see What a hopeless task that will be Because the 22 Michigan Men Will beat the Spartans once again We'll stop their passes, cut off the run But at least Ray Stachowicz should be having fun. " -RON EGAN To the Daily: When you speak of equality for women in University athletics, you'd better look to the Daily first. These two cross country teams ran on the same day in the same race. Both teams came in first. Its obvious which gender the Daily favored. --AMY SCHULTZ EDITOR'S NOTE: The stories alluded to appear in the September 30 issue of the Daily. The story on the men's cross country meet was given more prominent play and contained greater detail -than the story on the women's team. We want to hear from YOU! CC meet +postoned Today's 4 p.m. cross country meet between Michigan and Michigan State has been postponed until next Friday. The postponement came as a disap- pointment to the Wolverine harriers, who are coming off a stunning victory last week at the Notre Dame In- vitational meet. Dan Heikkinen led the Michigan charge at South Bend, finishing second behind Indiana's Jim Spivey. Spivey was clocked in 23:35 to Heikkinen's 23:36. K.C. top KANSAS CITY (AP)-Outstanding defense in the last two innings preser- ved a Kansas City win, as the Royals held on to defeat the New York Yankees last night. The win gave the Royals. a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series, which moves to New York for the remaining necessary games. The Royals got into trouble with one out in the eighth, when the Yanks' Willie Randolph singled. After Royal starter and winner Dennis Leonard struck out Bobby Murcer, Bob Watson lined a shot to the left field corner. Randolph, the potential tying run, forced the Royals to make a perfect play at the plate, which is exactly what they did. Willie Wilson played the carom in the leftfield corner perfectly, and the relay from George Brett nailed Randolph at the plate. The Royals again escaped trouble in the ninth. With runners on first and Yanks second with. one out, reliever Dan Quisenberry coaxed Graig Nettles into a game ending second to shprt to first double play. THE ROYALS, who didn't get a hit over the first two innings, unloaded on May with one out in the third inning, collecting two singles, a triple and a double to take-a 3-0 lead. e Darrell Porter got things rolling with a single and went to second when Frank Whit grounded a single through the right ide. Willie Wilson, who drove in Kansas City's final two runs Wednesday with a double, lashed an opposite-field smash down the first base line, and by the time right fielder Reggie Jackson retrieved it, both runners had scored and the fleet Wilson was on third. He scored when U.L. Washington ripped a double to left- center.
