Eastern Michigan University 487-0155 or 482-5151 y .nu'Sf$ Ja r n Michigan tennis coach Brian Eisner seems to like playing musical chairs. He's been playing it with his three best players, Michael Leach, Matt Horwitch .and Mark Mees all season long, and when the 12th ranked netters face Min- nesota and Wisconsin today and tomorrow, any of the trio could be slot- ted for first singles. "There are certain criteria that I look at to decide who will play first," Eisner said. "Generally, I decide based on who we are playing, what kind of player they have, the way our guys have been playing, and the kind of surface." TODAY'S MATCH will be at the var- Eisner shuffles best p laye rs sity tennis courts by the 0 building, which have an asph face. Asphalt is a fast surface,z favors Leach and Horwitch. Leach is un- beaten in 12 matches, while Horwitch has lost one of his 11 matches. Mees is 8- 4, but has had some hard luck this season. If the three players continue at their current paces, they could all earn NCAA berths again, which would prove that Eisner's rotational scheme is suc- cessful. "YOU CAN'T really worry about the NCAAs," Mees said. "That either comes or it doesn't." Once they get to the NCAAs, the net- ters could face one of their stiffest challenges, the possibility of playing against one another for an NCAA crown. "If we were to meet in the NCAAs," Leach said, "it would be in the finals, because we're placed at opposite ends of the draw. I don't think any of us would complain." "That would be very, very nice," Eisner said. "I'd really love that." Perhaps he'd like it even more than playing musical chairs. , Feel Isolated? Left Out? I l-informed?
