You don't necessarily have to go all the way to the
warm climate of the West Coast to find all of the best
synchronized swimmers in the nation. In fact, there's
one right here in Ann Arbor: Ruth Pickett, a 22-year-
old senior member of the Michigan synchronized
swim team.
Pickett was one of the first midwesterners to
receive the Broadrick Award for synchronized
swimming, an award comparable to the Heisman
Trophy in football. And after 15 years of six-hour long

"She had that spark that made her want to learn
and practice more and more," Lindeman continued.
"She was able to accept criticism well and would ob-
