THE LEAD seesawed throughout the
game, and the biggest lead was
Detroit's 85-77 margin late in the third
uarter.
The Pistons led until' the Celtics'
Terry Duerod sank a fallaway jumper
with 1:34 left to tie the score 111-111.
Tripucka then made one of two free
hrows for Detroit with 47 seconds left,
making the score 112-111. But Bird
rove the lane for a short bucket with 32
econds to go to give the Celtics the lead
gain. Bird had 12 of his points in the
ourth quarter. Maxwell added 23 and
Robert Parish had 18 for Boston.
John Long led the Pistons with 30
oints and set a club record for most
points in a first quarter with 16.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Tony
Campbell, taking over the scoring
burden from the injured ClarkKellogg,
scored 18 points last night to lead Ohio
State to a 74-54 non-conference basket-
ball victory over Kent State.
Kellogg, the Buckeyes' leading
scorer and rebounder the last two
seasons, played less than eight
minutes. The 6-7 junior forward from
Cleveland suffered a fractured bone
above his front teeth.
KELLOGG scored only five points,
taking only four shots, and had five
rebounds.
The Buckeyes, 3-1, pulled away from
a 28-22 lead. Ohio State scored 10
straight points midway through the
second half to take a commanding 54-37
lead against the Flashes, suffering
their first loss in three games this
season.
Ohio State's defense held Ed Kamin-
ski, Kent State's leading scorer with a
19-point average, to one field goal and
two points. Marty Harmon led the
Flashes with 13 points.
Nets 125, Cavs 106
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -
Ray Williams scored 27 points, in-
cluding 13 in the third quarter when
New Jersey took control of the game, to
lead the Nets to a 125-106 National
Basketball Association victory over
Cleveland last night. It was the
Cavaliers' seventh loss in a row.
Bobby Wilkerson of the Cavs was in-
jured in the third quarter when he hit
his head on the floor after being fouled.
He was taken from the court uncon-
scious and still had not regained con-
sciousness when he was taken to
Hackensack Hospital several minutes
later.
Williams led seven New Jersey
players in double figures, including
Buck Williams with 17 and James
Bailey, a former Rutgers star making
his first home appearance for the Nets
since being acquired from Seattle, with
15. Len Elmore, Mike O'Koren, Albert
King and Otis Birdsong also were in
double figures for the Nets.
Mike Mitchell and James Silas led
Cleveland with 20 and 15 points respec-
tively.
Spurs 106, Sixers 101
PHILADELPHIA (AP)- Dave Cor-
zine's two foul shots broke a tie and Ron
Brewer's long field goal' added insuran-
ce as the San Antonio Spurs defeated
the Philadelphia 76ers 106-101 last night
in a match-up of two first-place teams
in the National Basketball Association.
It was only the second loss of the
season for Philadelphia. The 76ers now
stand first in the Atlantic Division with
a 14-2 record. San Antonio leads the
Midwest Division at 12-5.
WITH 1:50 LEFT in the game, Mark
Olberding put San Antonio ahead 98-96
with a field goal and a foul shot.
Philadelphia's Bobby Jones, fouled by
Corzine, tied it at 98-98 with two free
throws.
But Jones then fouled Corzine, who
hit two free throws for a 100-98 lead with
51 seconds left.
Brewer's jumper made it 102-98 for
San Antonio. Olderding added two more
after being fouled by Andrew Toney
before the 76ers fought back, 104-101,*
with a three-point goal by Maurice
Cheeks with three seconds remaining.
