The peaceful rally started outside of the Pray-Harrold classroom building, where students carried signs bearing slogans such as "0-10, Never Again" while other demonstrators circulated petitions demanding Stock be ousted. Under the direction of York, the gathering also sang a rendition of Eastern's fight song. THEN AS SEVERAL members of the Hurons' football team looked on, some of the rally's organizers addressed the crowd. "We're not protesting Mr. Stock or the team," said student body president Mark Lee. "We totally sup- port the team and the athletic depar- tment, but the manner in which the decision was made to rehire Stock is not in the best interest of Eastern and its students."' The group of demonstrators then marched to the administration building, where four of the rally organizers went inside to meet with EMU provost and vice-president for academic affairs Anthony Evans. While the four student leaders voiced their concerns to Evans, the rest of the students waited outside in the cold, chanting slogans such as "Sell Stock," and "Hell no, he must go." EVANS THEN came out to speak to the crowd, assuring them that "I will relay your concerns to (EMU President John) Porter when he returns (from a business trip.)" Lee and Student Senate president David Penrose hand-delivered a letter to Stock on Tuesday, which demanded that the coach resign after this weekend's game against Wester Michigan. Stock did not see them, however, and the two were ushered out of his office. "We're just concerned that our voice be heard," Penrose said during the rally. "The morale of the students here is at an all-time low, and we're concerned about that." I !'' When you need $65 fast, you find out who your friends are. Lakers fire coach after 'Magic' outburst LOS ANGELES (AP)- Los Angeles Lakers Coach Paul Westhead, who was blasted Wednesday night by star Earvin "Magic" Johnson, was fired yesterday by team owner Jerry Buss. Buss named former coach and star player Jerry West to head the offense for the Lakers, with a co-coach, Pat Riley, handling the defense in a unique Nationa. Basketball Association situation. BUSS CLAIMED the outburst of the 22-year-old Johnson had nothing to do with his decision. "Obviously it was a difficult decision for us," said Buss. "There is no way to criticize anybody. I was disappointed in not seeing an exciting team once again. This started after the first or second game." Buss, whose team won the NBA title in 1980 with Johnson the catalyst, said the latter's outburst was unfortunate in its timing. capt' I urest and holds the listener t quality.
