(AP) - Walter Lewis' two touchdown passes to Jesse Bendross and a tenacious defense propelled Alabama to a 31-16 triumph over Penn State yesterday and enabled Paul "Bear" Bryant to tie the national collegiate football coaching record of 314 victories. Bryant, 68, in his 37th year as a head coach, now must wait two weeks until Alabama- closes its regular season against Auburn to try and break the record held by the late Amos Alonzo Stagg since 1946. The Alabama defense intercepted three passes, recovered a fumble, sacked Penn State quarterback Todd Blackledge four times and made two goal line stands. A record crowd of 85,133 watched six- th-ranked Alabama roll to a 24-3 half- time lead, gaining 334 yards to just 70 for the fifth-rated Nittany Lions; who suffered their second loss against seven wins. Pittsburgh 48, Army 0 PITTSBURGH (AP) - Quarterback Dan Marino and split end Julius Dawkins combined for four touchdown passes and three school records to lead top-ranked Pitsburgh to a 48-0 victory over Army yesterday. Marino completed 19 of 29 passes for 282 yards against an Army team that fell to 3-7. Marino raised his season total to 158 * completions, breaking the old Pitt record of 14 set by Ken Lucas in 1965. Donakowski's time of 30:29 was good enough to top the Wolverine harriers, but not enough to catch Marquette's Dave Iurich, who won the meet with a time of 30:12. Wisconsin won the championship, followed by Minnesota and Illinois. Wolverines Jim Schmidt (37th) and Bill Brady (46th) also finished in'the top 50, with times of 31:20 and 31:36, respectively. The eighth place finish means the end to the Wolverines season, as they did not advance to the next round of the national championships. The 1979 Oklahoma football team scored 100 points in the first quarter of its games to only 19 for the combined opposition. SANTA FE Not just a railroad but a musical experience!
