-Thursday, October 21, 1981-Page 11 M' spikers *roll past 'Windsor, By LAURA CLARK The Michigan women's volleyball team swept by a weak Windsor team last night with a three game shutout by the sco'es of 15-12, 15-12, 15-7. "We did not play with the intensity that we should have," aid Michigan Coach Sandy Vong. "We can't worry about the bility of the other team." IN THE OPENING game, the Wolverine spikers jumped out to a 6-1 lead before Windsor retalliated with seven unan- swered points to take a 8-6 lead. But the Wolverines prevailed, 15-12, with the help of a tough defense in front of the net and a solid aerial attack. Freshman Diane Ratnick's ap- pearance sparked the Wolverines in the second contest as she made some ivotal plays at key times to pace ichigan to a 15-12 win. The final game was dominated by a quick Michigan offense as the spikers put a finishing touch on the match with a 15-7 final game victory. Senior Julie Stotesbury, . who earned All-State honors at Michigan in 1979, led the of- fensive assault with some awesome spikes at net. SOPHOMORE Alison Noble, who was named to the All-State team as a freshman, also turned in an outstanding performance. Noble and three other ianadian members on the Wolverine ,squad call themselves the "Canadian connection." Noble sees a definite improvement in this year's team over last year's team which finished with a 26-17 record. "This year we are able to become from behind," explaiped the 1979-1980 Canadian Athlete-of-the-year in high school. "Last year we weren't as con- istent." Yong, who is in his eighth season as Michigan's coach, felt that his players may have been too confident for this match. The Michigan graduate ('56) added that his team may have turned in a better performance if it had been bet- ter prepared. Nevertheless, the victory over Win- dsor improves the Wolverine's season record to 23-7 overall, which is the best mark of any women's volleyball team in Michigan's history. The victory should also serve in oosting Michigan's confidence going into this weekend's Big Ten Tour- nament at Champaign, Illinois. Michigan is currently 1-2 among Big Ten opponents.
