It is enough to make Woody Hayes start punching himself., Supposedly, there is no excusable reason for someone from the Ohio capital to enroll at "that school up Nor- th." Linebacker Mike Boren had a reason- revenge.,, "Ohio State didn't recruit me," said the 6-2, 217-pound sophomore. "I atten- ded East Moor High where Archie Grif- fin came from: And after my junior year, I was one of Ohio State's top prospects. They wanted me to come in and sprintfor'them. I was at 230 and out of shape. I ran the 40 in five seconds flat and they said good-bye." THE BUCKEYES' loss was the Wolverines' gain as Boren leads the team in tackles with 47 and assists with 21. "I was a born and raised Buckeye,'' Boren added. "I grew up hating Michigan and I loved nothing more than watching Ohio State beat Michigan. I used to go to all of the games until they dropped interest in me. "Now that I'mhere at Michigan, I love it here. Michigan has a great athletic and academic program and I'm pleased to be here. It's great. I loved it especially when we went down to Columbus last year and beat them." LAST YEAR, Boren rem;ined in shadow of defensive stalwart Andy Cannavino. Boren realizes the importance of Saturday's confrontation with the (2- 0. conference record) Hawkeyes. "We're coming along and we're get- ting better as the weeks go on. I'm waiting for the defense to come around like (defensive co-ordinatoir Bill) Mc- Cartney says it will," Boren said. I could see after the South Carolina game last year that we were coming together as a team. I'm confident we'll do that again this year. Michigan has always been a team that reaches its peak late in -the season. We' have a tough schedule leading up to that final game, but I'm sure we'll do it." Boren cannot help but to think about "that final game" because he loves beating up on Buckeyes.
