LEWIS special to the Daily CLEVELAND - Two home runs, strong starting pitching, and a date with the t Cleveland Indians-a proven panacea for ending a five-game Tiger losing streak. Detroit did just that yesterday, benefiting from the Indians' version of "Silly Ball" as they knocked off the last-place Tribe, 4-3, thus remaining only one half game r behind first place Milwaukee in the torrid American league East. A bipartisan crowd of 7052, many of whom cheered a banner reading "Go Blue, Go Tigers," watched Cleveland literally run itself out of the ninth inning. The Tigers themselves sat in near disbelief as Miguel Dilone attempted to score from third on a one-out chop to the left side. Dilone is swift, to be sure, but not even Secretatiat could have scored on the weak grounder. Tiger thirdbaseman Mick Kelleher fielded the ball on one bounce and threw to catcher Bill Fahey, who tagged Dilone out by 15 feet. ROOKIE GEORGE Capuzzello, who came on in relief of starter and winner Dan Petry, retired Alan Bannister on aroutine fly to secure the triumph and record his first major league save. Cleveland had drawn within a run in the ninth on a Von Hayes double and Duarie Kuiper's RBI single. Dilone, running for Kuiper, stole second and scampered to third when Falley's throw bounced into centerfield, setting the stage for Dilone's baserunning blunder. Aside from Dilone, the main parties responsible for ending the Tigers' slide were Petry, Champ Summers and Stan Papi. Petry, the 22-year-old righthander who evened his career mark against Cleveland at 2-2, scattered eight hits, struck out four and walked only on in raising his record to 9-7. Petry seemed to get stronger in' the late innings before exiting in the ninth in favor of Capuzzello. Summers had two hits, including the gamewinner, a booming two-run sixth inning homer (his third) off Bert Blyleven (11-7). The blast erased a 2-1 Indian lead. Blyleven, who ranks among the league leaders in strikeouts and earned run average, was forced to leave the game in the sixth when his elbow stiffened up. Papi, the first batter to face reliever Mike Stanton, sent a fastball deep into the leftfield seats for his third home run of the season. The Tigers, who have won 14 of their last 18 games against Cleveland and are 4-1 s against the Tribe this year, wrap up this series today at 2 p.m. Jack Morris (12-5) will face rookie Tom Brendan (1-0).
