son't look for me to come in doing
triple-reverse passes and those sorts of
things. I am basically a fundamentalist
who believes in a sound passing at-
tack."
Green, a former- offensive co-
ordinator for Stanford, feels he has the
type of quarterback to lead such an ot-
fense in senior Mike Kerrigan.
"WE'RE LOOKING for Mike to have
an outstanding year," added Green.
"He's worked hard to learn our system.
and we feel he will develop into one of
the top passers in the country. He is
well on his way to breaking every
school passing record."
Last season, Kerrigan set six school
offensive records. He established the
season mark for most pass attempts
(377), most pass completions (173),
most yards passing (1,816), and most
yards in total offense (1,789). He also
holds the single game for pass attempts
(47 versus Purdue) and most pass com-
pletions (26 against Syracuse).
Kerrigan lost his main target, wide
receiver Todd Sheets, to graduation.
Sophomore Todd Jenkins will be coun-
ted on to receive most of Kerrigan's
aerials. The running back corps will
remain intact with Jeff Cohn and
Ricky Edwards sharing the tailback

duties with Jim Stone occupying the full
back slot.
IN ORDER for Green's passing at-
tack to be effective, the Wildcats offen-
sive line must provide the quarterback
with more than adequate protection.
Senior tackle Rob Taylor and senior
guard Kelby Brown spearhead the front
wall.
Defensively, the Wildcats look to free
safety Bobby Anderson for leadership.
Anderson led the team in takes with 71
last leason. Because -of that, Green
wants Anderson to play a major role in
shaping the Northwestern defense.
Other leading defensive players for the
Wildcats are Chris Capstran at outside
linebacker and Richard Moore down on
the defensive front.

Blue Facts
The graduating class of 1867 selected
Maize and Blue as the school colors.
Michigan's famed fight song, "The
Victors," was written in 1898 by Louis
Elbel to commemorate a last-second,
12-11 victory over Chicago that
produced the Wolverines' first Western
Conference football championship.
When coach Fritz Crisler arrived in
1938 he wanted to "dress up the plain,
black footballielmet" used at-the time.
The result wars -the disetnivet winged-
helmet still used by today's Wolverines.
