I Toronto teems with' activity - By Doug Feltner On the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario lies the modern metropolis of Toronto, a skyscraper and restaurant- filled jungle, teeming with activity. Toronto has something for everyone and facilities to cater to the mildest bookworm to the wildest reveler., For those who feel homesick for an educational institution during the long summer holiday, the Ontario Science Centre and the Art Gallery of Toronto may serve to quell the longing. THE SCIENCE center is a vast com- plex, and most of the exhibits allow for tourist participation. Two sights not to miss are the CN Douglas Feltner claims he often discos with Margaret Trudeau. He is a Daily general assignment reporter. tower and Casa Lomo. The CN tower is the tallest free-standing structure in the world. The view from the top is fan- tastic. The tower features a revolving restaurant and, for fancy people, the f world's "highest" disco. Be prepared for a steep fee. Casa Loma is a gaudy chateau-type castle located majestically on a high hill. A drive around the structure is well worth the time, but don't bother going inside-it costs money. THE NIGHTLIFE IN Toronto isn't overrated and features a number of wild bars and pick up spots, some great topless joints on Yonge Street, and a massive cinema complex that features 18 separate theaters. Great restaurants line the streets and provide limitless culinary adventure. Frank Vetre's on Carlton Street is highly recommended for beer and piz- za. Shopping is one of the more colorful Toronto activities. The Eaton Center on Yonge Street is a huge mall with clothing, record, food and drink shops. A massive market and excellent liquol' store are found in the Center's basement. One of the most pleasant things about Toronto is its cleanliness-those who visit from Detroit or New York may have trouble believing just how little dirt litters the city. The tidy armosphere extends even to. the public transportation system, which is itself one of the most efficient mass transit systems in the world. A final warning: Toronto becomes less and less appealing as winter ap- proaches. The overall "hum" of the city seems to die down to a "dilute drone.'. Be forewarned, however, that the drinking age in Canada is 18, allied with a 10 p.m. deadline for over-the-counter alcohol sales. The self-contained, communal living area houses a few hundred people to close to one thousand. The kibbutz system is based on the ideology of equality, and all members are expected to share the work load. Visitors who stay at the cooperatives (referred to as volunteers) help the regular members pick fruits and vegetables in the fields, milk cows, cook meals, or do factory work.
