The Michigan Daily-Tuesday, April 8, 1980-Page 5 Canilt esaAs a guide for voters, MSA candidates were asked to express their views on issues in this express views on ca mpaign year's campaign. The responses printed here are taken from surveys which were made available to all can- didates. Following are the ten questions that were an- swered "yes" or "no" on the survey. The ab- breviations used are in parentheses. " Should MSA fund only groups which deal ex- clusively with campus or University-related issues? (Campus issue funding only) " Is MSA's current relationship with the University administration appropriate? (Admin. relationship OK) Of those candidates who an- swered no, some propose a complete break of financial ties between MSA and the University, while others advocate attempts to get a student Regent or a student on the University executive committee. " Should MSA lobby on the state level? (State lobbying) * Should MSA lobby on the federal level (Federal lobbying) " Should MSA send members out of state to lobby or attend conferences? (Out-of-state trips) " Should MSA representatives be paid? (Paid MSA reps) " Should MSA officers be paid? (Paid MSA of- ficers)' Candidates were also asked to answer the following questions about this year's ballot proposals: 9 Should the election board certify MSA elec- tions subject to the appellate jurisdiction of the Central Student Judiciary? " Should the current preferential voting system be abandoned for a plurality or "straight" voting system? " Should the MSA mandatory $2.92 fee assessment go up to $4.25 over the next three years? Lastly, candidates were asked to prioritize the following existing or future MSA functions: Allocations to student groups, more input into the University budget process, more input into the University tenure process, getting a student seat on the University Board of Regents, course evaluation program, capital investments in University property, campus security, student counseling, and minority services. Candidates were also permitted to listand rate two of their awn priorities. Questions to which candidates answered 'yes" were abbreviated and put under the yes category; those questions answered with a "no" were placed in the no category. 1 Priorities are printed exactly as the can- didates rated them: a "1" means the issue should be of the highest importance forMSA, a "2" means next highest priority, and so on. Although there are over 100 candidates, only 54 submitted surveys. (Presidential and vice-presidential candidates were interviewed individually last week.) The number in parentheses after the namei of each school or college indicates the number of representative seats open on MSA for that college. issues 'r n 35 Y, [ >fckwk x>;'# °, : t > . . s3r2f >x r ,g.£z t 'siM i, ;3 SE;Fw1?5 2.° .: ?-. .
