Young was pronounced dead but
Campbell apparently survived the
ordeal, Fire Chief Carl Kukla said. He
was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where
doctors worked feverishly, to revive
him.
"They were both very stiff," Kukla
said. "They've working on Campbell.
They claim to have some kind of
murmur in Campbell. They haven't
given up yet."

DIVERS AIDED in the search for the
men, who were found about 100 feet
from where they were last seen, fire
officials said.
"They were attempting to swim back
to shore when both of them went down
about two or three times," said Flint
Police Detective Sgt. Ronald Ignash.
Both of them "went down again and
they never came back up."
Campbell and Young were among
several firemen who responded to
reports the boy, identified as Marcus
Lafayette, had slipped into the river
while playing with two friends along the
riverbank on the city's east side.
THE CHILD'S father rushed to the
youngster's aid, swam across the river
and managed to drag the boy to a
peninsula on the other side of the 200-
foot-wide river, Ignash said.
Another unidentified "civilian" also
went to the child's aid and helped the
boy's father give the youngster
artificial resuscitation, Ignash said.
Firefighters arrived a short time
later. One fireman, identified as
Charlie Fays, 39, made it across the
river but when Campbell tried to follow,
he ran into trouble, Ignash said.
"He got into the middle of the river
and complained of his leg muscles
hurting," Ignash said. "Then he fell
back into the water."
Young jumped into the water in an
effort to aid the stricken Campbell, but
both slipped below the water's surface
while trying to make it back to shore,
Ignash said.
The river, which is about 10-feet deep
at its center, was "extremely cold and
extremely fast," Ignash said.

There, ultimately, is an empty, chinless
satire-good, lame fun. There's no
emotional guts to it, because w
already accept everything it's tellir.

human zero, is a great prophet; but I
