The House Budget Committee also urged elimination of federal revenue sharing for states and federal grants to local police departments. THE ACTIONS came amid signs of new strain in the tenuous Democratic coalition that has been pressing for ap- proval of $15.9 billion in spending cuts and a $1.4 billion surplus in fiscal 1981, which starts Oct. 1. Several liberal Democrats attacked the proposed budget for cutting too deeply into programs for the poor and demanding too little sacrifice from the . wealthy. The growing rift among Democrats could threaten final com- mittee approval of the budget. I "s C Pi The Greek word "xenos" means stranger and guest-a coupling that occurs in no other language. Throughout history the Greeks have'welcomed any stranger as a guest, and at Thano's Company this tradition lives on.- This greeting is found on the menu of Thano's Compary, 514 East Washington Street, and it is only one of the many inviting. characteristics that patrons of the restaurant encounter. The warm atmosphere, courteous and friendly service, reasonable prices, and most importantly delicious food are among the other qualities that beckon any stranger or long-time customer to stop in for a snack, drink, or meal. Thano's Company was opened last year as a solution to -the smaller seating capacity of Mr. Thdno's first restaurant, The Lamplighter. The large, 575 person capacity of the restaurant certainly seems to have reduced difficulties. Yet Thano's Company is usually busy, a testimonial to its success. The decor of Thano's doesn't lead a customer to believe he is in a big restaurant, though. Rather, one may think he is in a small, intimate establishment, due to the many decorative partitions utilized. The design is highlighted by the use of natural surfaces such as raw wood, paneling, brick, and stucco. Both the excitingly unusual tiered cocktail lounge and the softly lighted main dining room are done in rich earth tones. The genial interior invited students and everyone to "come as you are" for a truly unique dining experience. Food, of course, is the specialty of Thano's Company, a wide variety of choices exists at lunch and dinner. Several salads from a number of cultures, including the Mediterranean Salad and the Hawaiian Delight, tempt any luncheon patron. Many enticing sandwiches are also featured, all at affordable prices. Dinner provides most of these items and much, much more. Steak, seafood entrees and a delicious flaming cheese specialty are available, along with what may be Ann. Arbor's largest selection of spaghetti and other pasta di'shes. Thano's famous Sicilian pizza is there, too, as well as his irresistable round pizzas with many toppings to choose from.
