The defeat, which was the 13th in a row for the Wolverines in Assembly Hall, left them with a 2-1 Big Ten record and 9-3 overall mark. Indiana is now 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference. TH E WOLVERINES, playing scrap- py defense throughout the entire game, seemed to have more lives than a cat, as they roared back from a second-half deficit of 49-38 to tie matters at 55-55 at the end of regulation play. Indiana freshman Steve Bouchie, who led his team with 20 points, hit first in the overtime, but Michigan's Thad Garner came back with a spectacular steal and dunk to knot it at 57. A RAY TOLBERT tip-in put the Hoosiers ahead to stay, however, with two minutes left in the overtime. See more sports, pp. 10 & 11 lead on a couple of buckets each b y Bouchie and freshman guard Isiah Thomas. The teams then traded baskets in this defensive struggle until a Butch Carter layup pushed the Hoosier lead to 49-38. Michigan then started to come back. A Garner lay-in, two Bodnar fr throws, and a Bodnar jumper from t corner closed the gap to 49-44. A Lozier jumper, two McGee foul shots, anda Paul Heuerman free throw made the score 51-49 with 4:22 left. AFTER A Bouchie dunk and a pair of Tolbert free throws gave Indiana a 55- 51 lead, McGee canned a 20-footer, and it was a two-point game with 1:47 to play. Indiana played keep away urn Lozier tied up Thomas with 47 seconds showing on the clock. Garner came up with the tip, enabling Bodnar to sink a falling-away 20-foot jumper with 25 seconds remaining. Michigan got the ball back again, but couldn't score in the last 10 seconds, thus sending the game into overtime. McGee led all scorers with 21 points. He was accompanied in double figur by Garner with 10, and Heuerman and Bodnar who scored 12 each. They failed to take advantage of several oppor- tunities, until Mark Lozier made a steal and fired ahead to Marty Bodnar, who laid one in with six seconds remaining. FIVE PRECIOUS ticks ran off the clock -before Lozier drew a technical foul by calling a time-out when Michigan had no time-outs remaining. Tolbert sankg the 'technical for his eighteenth point. After time out, the Hoosiers in-bounded the ball, and an in- credible game was over. "We wanted to take the technical," a dejected Orr explained after the game. "It's the only chance we had to get the ball. "We made a great comeback,' he continued. "We are very happy with our team. It's just a shame we didn't win.
