Baseotto, the Wolverines' freshman scoring wonder, turned his only three shots on goal of the game for his third hat trick of the season, pushing Michigan's WCH A record to 10-4-1 and idening their advantage over third lace Minnesota, who dropped to 11-10- 0. ALTHOUGH MOST of he second and all of the third period were controlled by the Gophers, Michigan took a 3-2 lead in the final frame and broke the game wide open with four consecutive goals. Blue goalie Paul Fricker delivered a superb performance, tur- .ning away 42 Minnesota shots, 16 in the third period Gopher barrage. *Baseotto opened the scoring in the third period for the Wolverines, when he. backhanded a rebound of a Lun- dberg shot from the right point past Minnesota goalie Jim Jetlund. Lun- dberg, Lerg (two goals), and Mars finished off the third period scoring. The Wolverines opened up the scoring at 7:21 into the first period when Brad Tippet t fed Bruno Baseotto at the Michigan blue line and the not-so-swift freshman right wing picked and wove his way the length of the ice, fooling Minnesota goalie Jim Jetlund with an off-speed slap shot from 20 feet. MICHIGAN HAD the only power play in the period and managed only one serious scoring threat when Eaves took ari errant shot at the corner of the net, but couldn't jam it past the alert Gopher goaltender. Paul Fricker was sharp in the net for the Wolverines, stopping 1:' Gopher shots, though five of thosewere slap shots from the blue line or beyond. In the second period the Wolverines ignored the vocal Gophers crowd and a one-man disadvantage at 3:45 when Tim Manning sent. Lerg in alone while the team was playing four-on-three. Nets By The A...ociated Press PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rookie Greg Kelser's slam-dunk with 28 seconds remaining capped a furious Detroit comeback to help the Pistons defeat the New Jersey Nets 119-116 last night and $reak. a 12-game National Basketball Association losing streak on the road. The Nets appeared comfortably ahead after scoring nie straight points to take a 110-10 ead with three minutes remaining. The Pistons cut the lead to four on two foul shots by Bob McAdoo, a dunk by Kelser and a jumper by Eric Money. The Nets built the lead back up to eight before Detroit scored seven *traight points to cut the margin to 114- 13. A long jumper by Mike Newlin with 1:15 remaining gave the Nets a three- point lead. But the Pistons, winning for just the seventh time in 29 games and only for the 14th time this season, then scored the game's finalgix points. John Long's jumper with one minute remaining narrowed the gap to one point and then Terry Tyler stole the ball from Rich Kelley and fed Kelser for the vinning basket. Long added two foul shots with eight seconds remaining to give the Pistons .their final points. The Nets, who had a two-game winning streak snapped, had a last chance for victory when two three-point attempts by Newlin missed.
