Boston, which wiped out a nine-point Cleveland lead early in the second half in Sunday's game, pulled within 76-72 with more than three minutes to go. LEAD SERIES, 2-0 Canadins edge Flyers, 2-1 By The Associated Press MONTREAL - Jacques Le- maire scored a shorthanded goal in the second period and Guy Lafleur added a tally in the third period last night, leading the Montreal Canadiens to a 2-1 triumph over the Phila- delphia Flyers in the second game of their Stanley Cup final series. The victory gave Montreal a 2-0 lead over the two-time de- fending champions as the series moves to Philadelphia for Game Three Thursday night. At 15:19 of the second per- iod, with teammate Guy La- pointe in the penalty box for holding, Lemaire stole the puck from Flyers defense- man Larry Goodenough in the neutral zone. He broke in two-on-none with linemate Jim Roberts a n d never hesitated in skating down the center and sending a low 15-foot wrist shot past the out- stretched right leg of Phila- delphia goalie Wayne Steph- enson. And at 2:41 of the third peri- od, Lafleur stole the disc from Philadelphia defenseman Tom Bladon in the neutral zone and sent a 30-footer past the right artm of Stephenson, who was screened by defenseman Joe Watson. Montreal goalie Ken Dry- den, helped by a hard-working group of forechecking for- wards and defensemen, was working on a shutout until Dave Schultz wristed a screen- ed 20-footer past his stick to bring the Flyers within a goal with just 2:25 left. Philadelphia pulled Stephen- son in the closing minute of play in an effort to tie the score, but the Canadiens held off the attack to record their 10th tri- umph in 11 playoff games this season. Montreal thus continued its home domination over Philadel- phia. The Flyers last won here on Nov. 2, 1974, and now would have to win at least once in the Forum to retain the title for the third consecutive season.
