Ipits i( the tai/ fly The Associated Press Sooner quits football NORMAN, Okla.-Oklahoma football coach Barry Switzer said esterday that deefnsive end Joe McReynolds had agreed to withdraw from the Sooner squad after being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol for the second time in a year. The misdemeanor charge was filed in district court yes- terday morning and McReynolds was to be arraigned late in the afternoon. Switzer issued a statement which read: "After discussing the situation with the officials involved and Joe McReynolds, Joe and I agreed that it would be best for him to withdraw from the squad. This will allow him to deovte full time to his personal problems." McReynolds, switched from the secondary to defensive end this past spring, was arrested Sunday and booked for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said he refused to take a blood or breathalyzer test. The refusal brings an automatic six- month suspension of his driver's license under state law. Marinaro moves HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.-Runng back Ed Marinaro stepped out from behind Chuck Foreman's shadow yesterday and signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets. Marinaro was Foreman's backfield partner with the Minne- sota Vikings last season. That was not an enviable position. "I didn't have the opportunity to run," said Marinaro. "To be effective, you need to get work. Maybe 15 carries a game. I never got that at Minnesota." Getting work for him won't be a problem for the Jets. John Riggins, who last year became the first 1,000-yard rusher in club history, also played out his option and has signed with Washing- ton. So New York had a glaring hole in the backfield and Marinaro fills it. Major League Leaders WHAT CAN YOUR HOME HAVE IN COMMON WITH THE CONCERT HALL?
