Golfers gird Michigan's men's golf team is heading toward its two big- gest matches of the season in slow gear. Tomorrow and Saturday, the golfers will compete in the Spartan Invitational Tournament in East Lansing. The tour- ney is a 72 hole, two day event, with a total of 25 teams in the field. Among the multitude will be Big Ten defending champions Indiana, and a top contender in Ohio State. The Wolverines will have to recover from two poor outings finishing next to last in the 16 team Northern Intercollegiate Tournament in Columbus, and sixth in a seven team match in Kalamazoo. The following weekend, Michigan will take part in the annual Big Ten Tournament to be held this year in Ann Arbor, May 14-16. Again Ohio State looks to be the top challenger to the Hoosiers three year reign as conference champs. The Buckeyes have won five straight tournaments this spring, and are fav- oredstotcontinuetheir winning ways the next two weekends in the state of Michigan. Buffalo shuffle BUFFALO - Tates Locke, assistant coach of the Buffalo Braves of the National Basketball Association, was named head coach yesterday, succeeding Jack Ramsay. Braves owner Pau! Snyder said Locke, 39, was signed to a two-year contract. Ramsay was dropped as Braves coach last Monday, the day after the Boston Celtics eliminated Buffalo from the playoffs. Locke had 11 years experience as a college coach at West Point, Miami, O., and Clemson before joining the Braves as assistant at the start of the 1975-76 season. -AP Ti-cats bag Baggett EAST LANSING - Charlie Baggett, Michigan State Uni- versity's standout quarterback, has agreed to play with the Hamilton Tigercats of the Canadian Football League. The Ontario club's general manager Robert Shaw said yes- terday Baggett and he have made a verbal agreement that Bag- gett will join the club this year. "He has no guarantee he will be starting quarterback. If he's the best, he'll start," said Shaw. -AP " Olympic tickets available If you're thinking about seeing the Olympics in Montreal this summer, but don't have any tickets yet, ducats are still available, but the big events are sold out. According to the Montreal Organizing Committee, all swim- ming, cycling and gymnastics tickets are completely sold out. Also sold out are basketball, boxing, weightlifting, and the finals of track and field. Even the opening and closing cere- monies are booked full, to the tune of 70,000 tickets each. There are about 225,000 seats left for preliminary track events, and for a variety of other sports, including soccer, judo, shooting, field hockey and yachting.
