Aud., 8 only) - Buster Keaton plays a movie projectionist who daydreams his way into various roles in the films he is showing, with comic results. FREE admis- sion. MUSIC - Mr. Flood's Party - Aging Children, Folk, no cover. Second Chance - Chopper, Rock, $1.00 students, $1.50 non- students. Monday JUNE 21 CINEMA Shoot the Piano Player - Ann Arbor Film Co-op, MLB 3, 7 & 10) - A most untypically free-flung effort by Francois Truffaut about a downtrodden pianist battling nameless gang- sters. A neo-absurdist tragi- comedy that is lyrical but at the same time bitingly unsentimen- tal, and considerably more compelling than Truffaut's us- ual marshmallows. **** Loves of a Blond - (Ann Ar- bor Film Co-op, MLB 3, 8:30 only) - 1965 Czech' film that first brought director Milos Forman (Cuckoo's Nest) to pro- minence, depicting a disillusion- ing first love. Never seen by this critic, but was made dur- ing the wonderous, brief flow- ering of the Czech cinema (1961- 68), and is likely worth seeing. - MUSIC Second Chance - Pez Band, Rock, $1.00 students, $1.50 non- students. Blind Pig - Boogie Woogie Red, Piano Blues, $1.00. Mr. Flood's Party - Eric Glatz, Folk, no cover. Pine Knob - Fleetwood Mac, $7.50 and $5.00. A, 7:30 only) - The uncut ver- sion of Kurosawa's famous epic of seven Samurai Warriors sav- ing a small village from tyran- nical bandits. A, 7 & 9) - A recently - released documen- tary of Nazi Germany, contain- ing a great deal of previously unseen film footage including home movies of Adolph and Eva. For buffs of the period, probably essential viewing. MUSIC Blind Pig - Larry Mander- ville, Jazz, $1.00. Mr. Flood's Party - Stony Creek, Bluegrass, 75c. Second Chance - Masquer- ade, Rock, 50c students, $1.50 non-students. Pine Knob - Neil Young and Stephen Stills, $8.50 and $6.00. Thursday JUNE 24 CINEMA Return of the Pink Panther- (Peoples' Bicentennial Com- mission, MLB, 7 & 9) - Recent sequel to Peter Sellers' famous Inspector Clousseau films of more than a decade ago. An accurate re-assemblage with all the laughs intact, but somehow the whole enterprise seems out of time and place against the backdrop of the post-Vietnam, post - Watergate, post - assas- sination age. Sellers tries hard, but the film comes on as noth- ing so much as a desperate, yearning museum piece. * Easy Rider - (Ann Arbor Film Co-op, Ang. Aud. A, 7 & 10:30) - The Counterculture's original cinematic battle cry seems more a strange, wispy anachronism with each passing year (did people really act like that then?) Interesting today only for Jack Nicholson's per- formance and for nostalgia pur- poses.** The King of Marvin Gardens - (Ann Arbor Film Co-op, Ang. Astd. A, 9 only) - Ever get the feeling Jack Nicholson is incap- able of playing anything but the same basic wise - guy? Well, it's a bum rap; his eloquent interpretation here of a brainy, introverted radio commentator should have dispelled such ru- mors forever, but unfortunately didn't (hardly anyone saw the film), and it's a shame he doesn't get more opportunities to display his unexpectedly awesome versitivly. music Second Chance - Masquer- ade, Rock, $1.00 students $1.50 non-students. Mr. Flood's Party - Red Mountain String Band, Country, 75c. Pine Knob - Neil Young and Stephen Stills, $8.50 and $6.00.
