Amaya, needed, won an easy 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 victory over / Hans Joachim Plots of West Germany. Dibbs of Miami, Fla., hurled a racquet against the umpire's stand in a display of disgust with his own play against Hans Pohmann of West Germany, then beat him 6-3, 7-5, 6-1. And the fifth-seeded Solomon, of Sil- ver Springs, Md., was extended to the limit by Sashi Menon, an Indian who studied at Southern California. Solomon finally pre- vailed 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-2. Sweden's Bjorn Borg, the top seed in men's singles play in the $210,000 tournament and the winner here two years in a row, had an easy 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Hans Kary of Austria. Jazzy deal NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans Jazz made a deal yes- terday with the Portland Trail Blazers that on the surface sounds ridiculous. Th e two teams agreed to. trade draft choices. Perhaps there is more- than meets the eye. The deal wasn't transacted to spice up a particularly boring NBA board meeting, but due to previous deals Portland owned three second round picks in this year's draft while the Jazz had none. IMI gridd er signs CHICAGO-Bill Hoban, former Wolverine defensive star, has signed a 1976 contract to play for the Chicago Bears, the Na- tional Football League club said yesterday.
