The strong - armed lefty was almost untouchable, allowing only two hits and striking out eight. Michigan hit only one ball out of the infield and sent only 30 hitters to the plate, three over the minimum. Meanwhile, Wol- verine hurler Lary Sorensen pitched well much of the game, but gave up all his runs and hitsin the first, sec- ond and eighth innings. The Michigan loss puts the Wol- verines in the loser's bracket where they meet Southern Illinois this morning at 10. Eastern takes on Illinois State at 1 p.m. See story, page 11. By The Associated Press DETROIT - Mickey Rivers, Thurman Munson, Chris Cham- bliss and Roy White all hit home runs last night and the New York Yankees stopped Ron Le- Flore's hitting streak at 30 games with a 9-5 triumph over the Detroit Tigers. LeFlore went 0-4 against Ed Figueroa and reliever Tippy Martinez. Despite striking out on three pitches in his last at-bat, LeFlore was given a huge . ovation in the eighth inning and again when he wvent to center field in the ninth. The bleacherites chant- ed "LeFlore! LeFlore! Le- Flore!" Tigers starter Vern Ruhle re- tired the first nine Yankees he- fore New York exploded with four runs on three homers in the fourth. Rivers opened with a homer and Munson followed a White walk with a long blast off the upper right centerfield fac- ing. Then Chambliss poked his home run. Curtis, 3-4, hurled hitless ball until Dave Kingman stroked a ground single to left opening the seventh inning. Two outs later, Roy Staiger lined a single to left, but Curtis protected his shutout by getting Mike Phillips to ground out. McBride, leading the National League in batting at the start of the game, followed Lou Brook's infield single in the third with his homer to right.
