Page Six HE MICHIGAN DAILY Friday, August 15, 1975 Page Six FHE MIHIGAN DAILY Friday, August 15, 1975 Hearst's mother called by Pa. Catherine Hearst, mother of fugitive newspaper heiress Pa- tricia Hearst, said yesterday she has been subpoenaed and will appear before a grand jury in Harrisburg, Pa., that is investigating whether Patricia used a Pennsylvania farmhouse as a hideout. "I don't know why I'm go- ing," said Hearst from San Francisco. Hearst said she would appear and testify Mon- day. WALTER Scott, the FBI in- former who claims his parents and brother aided fugitive newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst, was described by his father as an alcoholic and a psychopathic liar. "He's a liar. He's lying through his teeth," John Scott said yesterday in response to Walter's charges that the elder Scotts and his brother Jack and his wife Micki had helped har- bor Patty Hearst in Las Ve- gas. Walter Scott, a 42-year-old ex-Marine who is being held in protective custody by the FBI, said the elder Scotts and Jack even drove Patty Hearst from the West Coast to the East Coast last summer after she had joined the Symbionese Lib- eration Army, a terrorist group she joined after being kidnaped. WALTER Scott met with a pool of reporters Wednesday in an interview arranged by the FBI. Walter has been sheltered by the FBI since early this month when his younger broth- er, Jack, announced that nei- ther he nor Micki Scott would cooperate in the search for Miss Hearst. Jack Scott said from Las Vegas that his brother Walter has "severe personal prob- lems" which were being ex- ploited by the FBI . Scott, an author and sports critic, said in a prepared state- ment that "the FBI has shown its willingness to exploit Wal- ter's emotional, physical and personal problems in order to turn him against his family." IN A telephone interview with The Associated Press, Scott said that at a time when Walter claims to have met Pa- tricia Hearst in Las Vegas, Walter was in London. Walter said Wednesday that he met Miss Hearst at his par- ents, Las Vegas apartment last Sept. 24. The father of the two men was reached by telephone in Las Vegas at the apartment complex he manages. He laughed at the statements made by his son. "HE'S A psychopathic liar," the father said. "He's been in and out of mental hospitals. He's had too many problems to mention." "HOW would I know if I did?" he said. Jack Scott, former athletic director at Oberlin College, has been suspected of aiding Miss Hearst since the fugitive's fin- gerprints were reportedly dis- covered in a northeastern Penn- sylvania farmhouse that was Ford to veto ofooil price c (Continued from Page 1) Administration (FEA). White House sources said Ford decided during a meeting with top energy and economic advisers to carry through with the oil price control extension veto he threatened earlier. And Press Secretary Ron Nessen, when asked whether the Presi- dent still planned a veto, replied: "I don't have any reason to believe he has changed his mind." The President plans to an- nounce his decisions today at a Vail energy symposium. NESSEN declined to confirm Sant's prediction on lifting oil import fees or to spell out Ford's plan except to say the President would announce "at least one measure to soften the economic impact" of his veto. Sant, in Portland, Ore., said a decision to remove the import fees was "the most likely out- come, and that the tariff will be removed at the same time oil prices are decontrolled." Later he said that removal of the tariff was one of Ford's better options, and that many in the FEA favored it. But he said he did not mean to say flatly that the tariff would be ontrols lifted. Ford met with Federal En- ergy Administrator Frank Zarb and economic adviser A 1 a n Greenspan and two speechwrit- ers for 50 minutes to draw up a final version of the Vail speech. The J u s t i c e Department, meanwhile, announced plans to appeal a court decision ruling that the oil import fees were illegal. THIS development stems from the U.S. Appeals Court ruling that the imposition of fees on imported oil is illegal. The ap- peal apparently is designed to give the White House the option of re-imposing fees on imported oil in the future to encourage energy conservation. Solicitor Gen. Robert Bork, in announcing the appeal, said, "This case involves interpreta- tion of an important federal statute and the issues should be decided by the Supreme Court." At the same time, the Library of Congress released a study stating that removal of the $2 per barrel fee would reduce the price of gasoline by three cents a gallon and save American consumers an estimated $9.5 billion a year.. rent IT repo of I hide Mic testi Mon Sc that tions by t agal gran jury ed last summer by his wife. be Harrisburg grand jury is ortedly considering charges harboring a fugitive in the out incident.
