Tuesday, May 13, 1975 THE MICI Batsmen visit ;HIGAN DAILY Page Eleven HIGAN DAILY Page Eleven By BILL CRANE The Michigan Wolverine bats- men (9-3) are perched in first place in the Big Ten race going into the season's last weekend, but they shouldn't feel too con- fident. Yes, the Wolverines continued their hot play on the road by winning three out of four games this weekend from Indiana and Ohio State. But this 1975 sea- son is the fifth campaign in a row that Michigan will have a chance to win or tie for the Big Ten championship. Michigan is due. The batsmen have finished second place and third place in the last four years. Last year was particular- ly frustrating. The Wolverines were rained out of the final two doubleheaders. Rained-out games aren't rescheduled in the league. So, there really isn't a team around more destined to win a title-even if by odds alone. (Certainly hockey's New York Islanders haven't used up all the available lucky bounces.) Coach eyes champ' Today, the Maize and Blue take their magnificent road rec- ord (12 wins in their last 13 a w a y contests) to Bowling Green. Maybe this time the Blue players will feel more at home than they did when Bowling Green visited Ann Ar- bor earlier this season. At Ray Fisher Stadium, the BG's shut Michigan out 4-0 in the first game of a twinbill and the Wolverines' only saved them- selves from being double-dipped by outlasting the Greenies 5-4 in 10 innings in the nightcap. Since then however, Mich- igan has won 11 and dropped but three. Perhaps the big test for the Wolverine title drive will be today's games in Ohio. Bowling Green won't see Mich- igan's top pitchers of course, as freshmen Bill Stennet and Craig McGinnis take the mound for the Maize Randy Ha homerun cou eight and he roundtrippers all-time reco Bill Freehan Dave Brown.
