National NEW YORK - The Good Humor Corp. was named in a 244-count indictment yesterday, and was charged with making and selling ice cream with an illegally high bacteria level and keeping false business records to hide that fact from state inspectors. Brooklyn District At- torney Eugene Gold said records showed some samples had a coliform bacterial count 200 times the level permitted by law and others had a bacteriological rating "too high to count." Gold added the firm kept two sets of quality control records - one showing the true coliform count and the other showing a false count which was shown to inspectors. BOSTON - Alger Hiss, who went to jail a quarter century ago for perjury in the famous spy case which launched Richard Nixon to national prominance was readmitted to the Massachusetts Bar yesterday. Hiss, 70, was disbarred in 1952, two years after he was con- victed of lying about his elleged dealings with Whittaker Chambers, an admitted courier for a Soviet spy ring. This marks the first time the court has reinstated a disbarred lawyer. WASHINGTON - The FBI has removed it- self from the investigation of a break-in at the home of Sen. Howard Baker, (R-Tenn.), in which burglars ransacked the house but ig- nored jewels, furs, gold coins and other val- uables. An FBI spokesperson said the agency determined no government property was stolen and withdrew. Baker, a member of the Sen- ate select committee investigating the CIA, said he was baffled by the break-in because the burglars took none of $40,000 worth of possessions in the home. MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Air Lines Pi- lots Association ended its three-day s t r i k e against Northwest Airlines early yesterday with the signing of a new three-year con- tract. More than 1,500 pilots struck the air carrier Monday after charging it had backed away from some language in a contract agree- ment announced July 19. State DETROIT - A fourth man was arraigned yesterday in the slaying of Martin Pyszko, who was beaten to death during the disturb- ance which rocked Detroit's northwest side. Pyszko, who was dragged from his car while on the way home from work, died last Thurs- day of a fractured skull, never having re- gained consciousness. James Henderson was arraigned on first degree murder charged and is being held without bail in Wayne County jail. DETROIT - Eleven policemen were arraign- ed on charges stemming from a May 9th de- monstration in front of the Federal Building in Detroit and released on personal bond, pend- ing a preliminary hearing set for Aug. 13 and Sept. 26. Police Chief Philip Tannian suspend- ed three of the officers, although it is depart- ment policy to suspend any officer charged with a crime. The officers who were not su- spended were reassigned to "non-sensitive posi- tions,' said a police spokesperson. Eight of the officers were charged with melicious de- struction of property over the value of $100, a felony. The others were charged with ag- gravated assault. 0 Local U.S. Rep. Marvin Esch (R-Ann Arbor) is one of several congresspersons taking part in an official congressional trip to the Middle East this month. His office announced yesterday that members of congress will tour Israel and Egypt and will be briefed by top military and political officials in Tel Aviv and Cairo.
