Attorneys for Little claim
she passed polygraph test

RALEIGH, N.C. (t) - Defense
attorneys for Joan Little said
yesterday that the 21-year-old
black woman twice has taken
polygraph tests that support her
claim that she killed a white
jailer in self defense.
In making the assertion, Lit-
tle's attorneys also calledfer
the state to give her a third test
by an examiner to be designated
by the prosecutor, Dist. A t t y .
William Griffin of Beaufort
County.

THE ACTION came in a 'iso-
tion by defense attorney Morris
Dees for dismissal of the first-
degree murder indictment on
the grounds Griffin agreed to
drop the charge if Little success-
fully passed alie detector test.
Dees and other defense attorn-
eys said the alleged agreement
was made during pretrial hear-
ings in. Washington, N.C., last
April.
Dees, assigned to the case by
the Southern Poverty Law Cen-


ter in Montgomery, Ala., said
yesterday afternoon he does not
expect Superior Court J u d g e
Hamilton Hobgood to dismiss
the indictment because of l'is
motion.
Dees'predicted Hobg-i-.d would
leave the issue to a's appellate
court-
HOBGOlD directed Griffin to
provide a written reipons to
the motion by Monday. Griffin,
who did not comment on the
defense action, was absent when
the afternoon session begn.
The motion came shortly after
a white farm wife was seated as
the seventh juror for Little's
trial on a charge that she mur-
dered jailer Clarence Allgoon,
62, while trying to esape. Lit-
tle contends she st ebbed Alli-
good with an icepick when he
attempted to rape ner.
Ms. Little was in the jail
while awaiting an aprrxal of a
breaking and entering convic-
tion.
