International BEIRUT, Lebanon - A note to a French news agency yesterday announced a 72-hour delay in the deadline by kidnapers to kill U.S. Army Colonel Ernest Morgan. The kidnapers set a new deadline of 2 p.m. tmorrow (EDT), threatening to kil Morgan if their demands are not met by that time. A tape was also re- leased in which a man believed to be Morgan, who is black, asked Washington not to neglect him because of "my race or the color of my skin." The kidnapers have demanded that the U.S. deliver food and building materials to. slum residents in Beirut, and that the search for Morgan by Lebanese security forces be ended. KAMPALA, Uganda - Denis Hills, the Eng- lish Schoolteacher who almost went before a firing squad for calling Ugandan President Idi (Big Daddy) Amin Dada a "village tyrant," was freed yesterday and flew home to England with British Foreign Secretary of State James Callaghan. Hills declared that he still loved Uganda in spite of his close brush with death. Amin, in freeing Hills, declared his love for England. Callaghan flew to Africa to patch re- lations between Uganda and England, and to secure Hills release. National CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The Soviet and American commanders for next week's joint space mission chatted by telephone yesterday and reports from both countries were good. Apollo Commander Thomas Stafford called his Soyuz counterpart, Alexei Leonov, and receiv- ed word that the Soviet countdown is proceed- ing on schedule. Earlier, Stafford and crew- mates Vance Brand and Donald Slayton under- went thorough, two-hour physical examinations and were pronounced in "superb condition" for the Tuesday afternoon launch, expected to ga- ther one million visitors. NASA physicians photographed the astronauts' bodies for com- parison later to see what changes fluids might make in their shapes, tested for bacteria, bal- ance and stress on the heart, and collected saliva samples. WASHINGTON - The 1975 corn crop, vital to the U.S. food supply, is expected to be a record of nearly 6.05 billion bushels, up 30 per cent from last year, the Agriculture Depart- ment announced yesterday. A senior USDA economist also predicted that the huge crop, which wil be ready for harvest this fall, will help dampen retail food price increases through 1976. The department's Crop Report- ing Board also estimated 1975 wheat produc- tion at a record of 2.19 billion bushels, up 22 per cent from last year. State LANSING - A majority of the owners of hotels, restaurants, and tourist-related indus- tries in Eastern Michigan favor the establish- ment of state-regulated gambling casinos, state representative Casmer Dgonowski (D-Detroit) says. He released the results of a survey yes- terday showing that 58.5 per cent of the 200 tourist industry respondents favored a limited number of the casinos while 39 per cent op- posed it. Ogonowski, chairman of a special House committee studying the feasibility of casino gambling in Michigan, said the results of the survey "gives us some important in- formation on which to base our recommenda- tions."
