Page Eightees THE MICHIGAN DAILY Wednesday, May 7, 1975 Coleman one-hits Brewers By The Associated Press DETROIT-Joe Coleman fired a one-hitter and Ron Leflore hit a two-run single in the fifth in- ning last night, helping the De- troit Tigers to a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. The only hit Coleman surren- dered was George Scott's two- run homer in the first inning. The right-hander finished with four walks and eight strikeouts in winning his second game in five decisions this baseball sea- son. THE TRIUMPH broke a three- game Tigers losing streak and snapped a five-game Brewers winning streak-their longest in a year. Pete Broberg, 4-3, gave up a two-out solo home run to Bill Freehan in the Detroit fourth to start the Tiger scoring. Leon Roberts opened the Ti- ger fifth with a bunt single, then Aurelio Rodriguez and Tom Veryzer walked to fill the bases in front of Leflore's single. LEFLORE gave the Tigers another run in the seventh by walking, stealing second after five Jim Colborn pickoff throws to first, then scoring on a single by Gary Sutherland. Milwaukee designated hitter Hank Aaron made his Tiger Stadium debut as an American Leaguer. The home-run cham- pion failed to get a hit but walked once. Aaron hit a home run in the park as a National Leaguer during the 1971 All- Star game. COLEMAN got into trouble in the first inning by hitting Robin Yount with a pitch. Shortstop Veryzer then bobbled Sixto Laz- cano's double play grounder which would have ended the in- ning. Instead he got just one out and Scott followed with his third homer of the season. Although Detroit only scored twice in the fifth, the Bengals threatened to really break the game open. But Colborn got the Brewers out of further damage after replacing Broberg follow- ing Leflore's hit. BOSTON SECOND baseman Doug Griffin appears to be playing leap-frog with Cleve- land centerfielder G e o r g e Hendrick. Hendrick was actu- ally forced out at second in yesterday's game. Royals reign KANSAS CITY - George Brett delivered a tie-breaking single and Frank White added a two-run hit as the Kansas City Royals scored four times in the eighth inning and beat the Tex- as Rangers 6-2. After the Rangers tied the score in the top of the eighth on Willie Davis' two.- run homer loser Jim Bibby, 1-3, issued a leadoff walk to John Mayberry in the bottom of the inning and Hal McRae singled him to set ond. RELIEVER Steve Foucaut fanned Harmon Killebrew bs Brett snapped the tie with a single and the runners wount up on second and third on t throw to the plate. White fat lowed with a two - run single took second on the throw hoss and scored on a single by Butl Martinez. Nelson Briles, 3-0, blanke the Rangers on four hits unti the eighth when Bill Fahey sin gled and Davis homered. Wilbur bewildered CHICAGO - Steve Brye hi his first home run of the season and Larry Hisle added a run scoring triple as the Minnesot Twins won their fourth straigh game, a 4-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox. THE DEFEAT was the sixt this baseball season for Chi cago's knuckleballing Wilb Wood, who has won only once Twins starter Dave Glotz car ried a three-hitter into the ser enth inning, but yielded single to Johnson at the start a the inning.
