petitioned for a recount of the
election yesterday.
In another matter related to
the election, Washtenaw County
Prosecutor William Delhey has
decided not to prosecute H R P
mayoral candidate Ernst for al-
leged election fraud.,
FORMER Councilman John
McCormick (R-Fifth Ward)
charged Ernst with failing to
live withing the city limits dur-
ing her campaign. Ernst's of-
ficial residence was an apart-
ment on Main Street, but Mc-
Cormick charged that she spent
most of her time at a home in
Scio township.
McCormick produced an affi-
davit from one of Ernst's neigh-
bors in Scio .to the effect that
she lived there continuously
since Fall, 1974.
He also produced a lease and

rent payments for the residence.
But Delbey said that the evi-
dence was inconclusive and that
it is not unusual for people to
have multiple residences.
Many political observers saw
the accusation as a desperate
attempt by the Republicans to
have Ernst's votes disqualified
therefore retaining Stephenson
as the mayor.
