HIDALGO, Tex. - Hundreds of United Farm Workers union sympathizers urged workers to stay out of Rio Grande Valley melon fields after a mass march yesterday to the ranch where 11 persons were wounded the day be- fore. The crowd of men, women, and child- ren stationed themselves across the road from the ranch and flung jeers and taunts at ranch- er Bill Pate and one of his employes, C. L. Miller Jr. Miller used an automatic shotgun Monday to "open season" on demonstrators who he said came onto the ranch and began stomping field canteloupes. Ten of the intrud- ers and one ranch employe were wounded, authorities said.
