Sports of the DAILY By The Associated Press NHL on trial BUFFALO, N.Y.-U.S. District Judge John T. Elfvin yesterday set a Nov. 14 trial date for the antitrust suit filed against the National Hockey League by Greg Neeld, a hockey player who is blind in one eye. Neeld has accused the NHL of conspiring with other minor hockey leagues "to deprive him of an opportunity to advance in professional hockey," said his attorney, Daniel S. Mason. Neeld lost the use of his left eye in 1973 when he was struck by a hockey stick during a minor league game. He was a fourth-round draft pick in 1975 by the Buffalo Sabres but was barred from playing by an NHL rule proscribing one-eyed players. The judge also denied the NHL's motion to dismiss the case, saying that there were sufficient facts to warrant presentation to a jury. * * * * Is there a Doce... BALTIMORE-Quick action by Texas pitcher George 'Doc' Medich apparently saved the life of a baseball fan in Baltimore's Memorial Stadium prior to last night's game between the Rangers and the Baltimore Orioles. Medich, a first-year resident in general surgery at Pittsburgh's Allegheny General Hospital, stopped his pre-game running in the outfield af- ter hearing public address announcer Rex Barney say that a doctor was needed in Section 7, which is near the third base dugout. Medich, who said he had been involved in 25 such cases since starting his medical training, immediately took charge at administering the emergency treatment.
