Okia. mayor pitches in, patches potholes
YUKON, Okla. (AP)-Hands that
f' normally don't work with anything

forms were blistered on the handles of
shovels yesterday as city workers were
ordered to patch potholes or lose their
9r y ,; jobs.
"We told the voters that if they would
approve a sales tax increase, we would
fix the streets. They voted 4-1 in favor of
the increase, and we're going to fix the
streets," Mayor Harold Dunham, 35,
said as he leaned against his shovel in
the 95-degree heat.
The incerease, from 1 per cent to 2
per cent, was approved last month:
"SOMETHING HAD to be done to
buy a little bit of time," he said. "With
110 miles of potholes and only a five-
man street maintenance crew, we
weren't even getting the temporary
patching done quick enough. With these
temporary patches in, we can begin let-
ting contracts to do the job properly."
City Manager James Branum, 27,
gave the order Wednesday that all
municipal employees of this Oklahoma
City suburb scheduled to work yester-
day, except those with physical
problems, were to help. A police dispat-
cher was left on duty to handle
telephone calls, one woman was in City
Hall to answer calls and collect utility
bills, and a skeleton fire crew was left
on duty.
BRANUM HAD SAID that any able-
bodied employee who failed to work,
without a valid reason, would be fired.
"If anybody thinks they are too good
to work for this city, then they can just
go work for another one. We don't want
them," he said as he swung a shovel.
"All the council members are out.
The city attorney is up the street
sweeping rocks out of the potholes. The

ner directing traffic.

FIREFIGHTERS ON one work crew,
who asked not to be identified, said they
would have been in trouble if a serious
call came in.
When asked why he didn't refuse to
work on the streets, he replied: "I like
beings fireman real well."
As for most of the others, they replied
with a terse: "No comment."

The terrible sins: of adultery, whoredom, fornication,
homosexuality, etc. strike at the very source pf.life.-The
Home from which proceed society, the state, the nation,

governments, And The Church!
These great and horrible sins and enemies of mankind
have brought down, destroyed and caused to perish many a
great man, many a great nation, and great empires! The Bible
is the Book of Life! God Almighty is its Author! Men and
nations and churches who reject its message to mankind at
the hands of Phineas: "GOD WAS WITH HIM!"
The, writer is deliberately making this article short,
relatively speaking, with the hope and prayer that all who
claim to be Christian will give much serious consideration to
'what is written!" Have you done anything about "PAGING
PHINEAS" since this request was publicly presented to you!
Has it caused you to give any serious thought to your own
conduct, your own dress, your own eternal welfare as well as
that of your family, loved ones, the Church of God, our
Eternal welfare - Note and consider that portion of The
Sermon on The Mount recorded In Matthew 5:27-28:
"YE HAVE HEARD THAT IT WAS SAID BY THEM OF OLD
TIME, "THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY: BUT I
SAY UNTO YOU, THAT WHOSOEVER LOOKETH ON A
WOMAN TO LUST AFTER HER HATH COMMITTED
ADULTERY WITH HER ALREADY IN HIS HEART."
In view of the immorality and unchastity and uncleaness
showing up every way one looks, and in view of the fact thatI
take it upon myself to be a Columnist claiming to "PREACH
THE WORD OF GOD" DO I NOT NEED TO CHECK UP ON:
"MY FAITHFULNESS AS A WITNESS"; "PRAY YE THE
LORD OF THE HARVEST HE WILL SEND FORTH
LABORERS INTO HIS HARVEST."
