Argentina, Brazil and West Germany are considered the favorites to win. Texas-El Paso NCAA track fav EUGENE, Ore. (AP)-Sure, Texas-El Paso has enormous depth, it won the indoor championship for the fourth time in the past five years last March and it is the favorite. But don't count the University of Southern California out of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Trojans have won 26 outdoor titles in the meet's 56-year history. However, in the three-day meet, which begins today at the University of Oregon, the Trojans are severely outmanned. But despite the lack of depth, they could upset Texas-El Paso's bid for a second NCAA outdoor championship. Bowman, Canadiens to meet NEW YORK (AP)-Scotty Bowman, coach of the Stanley Cup national Montreal Canadiens, said yesterday that he would meet with officials of the NHL team next week to discuss his contract. Bowman, who led the Canadiens to a third straight NHL championship, has been mentioned as a possible candidate for either the coach or general manager's jobs with the New York Rangers. Since joining the Canadiens in 1973, Bowman has worked on a series of one-year contracts and there were reports that he would seek more security in his new agreement. But he expressed satisfaction with his situation in Montreal, saying "there are plenty of advantages for us there. We are from the area and we have a young family. Factors like that weigh heavily sometimes in professional sports."
