Brewers tap Tigers; Band d's sac decisive The Michigan Daily-riday, May 19,1978-Page 19 AMERICAN LEAGUE NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST MILWAUKEE (AP) Sal Bando's eighth-inning sacrifice fly scored Paul Molitor as the Milwaukee Brewers, after squandering a five-run lead, struck back and snap- ped Detroit's four-game winning streak with an 8-7 victory over the Tigers yesterday. Molitor led off the eight with a bunt single and reached second on the play on a wild throw by third baseman Aurelio Rodriguez. After Cecil Cooper sacrificed Molitor to third, Bando lofted his fly to right breaking a 7-7 tie. Detroit hsd tied the score with a five run eight-inning rally highlighted by Steve Kemp's three-run homer and an RBI pinch double by Lance Parrish. A pinch single by Mark Wagner, a walk and a single by Jason Thompson scored one run, and Kemp unloaded his second homer of the year. After a two- out pinch single by Rodriguez, Bill Castro replaced reliever Bob McClure and served up Parrish's game-tying Nicklaus, Player leading DUBLIN, Ohio (AP)-Jack Nicklaus, the tournament founder and moving force, and his old friend and golfing foe Gary Player matched five-under-par 67s and shared the first-round lead yesterday in the prestigious Memorial Golf Tournament. "It's probably the best driving round I've ever had," the satisfied Nicklaus said after he had tied the tournament scoring record on the layout he designed and built on his dream course, the 7,106-yard Muirfield Village Golf Club. "ITWOULD have been almost im- possible-the conditions would have been almost unplayable-if we had not been able to life and place," said Player, the little South African globetrotter, often a Nicklaus houseguest when in this country. HIe had the lead alone until bogeying the 17th hole, missing the green. That dropped him back into a share of the lead and he had to one-putt the 18th to save it.
