The officer, J Ian Gavin said he did not stop therm because they were well-dressed and his func- tion is to provide security out- side the mission. Gavin said he heard a shot in the lobby and turned to see one of the men over the wound- ed guard, identiifed as Radomir yledic, '8. Gavin said he pur- sued the men upstairs and one of them told him through a closed door: "I WANT publicity. I want the cameras here!" Gavin, thinking the trio had taken a woman hostage, offered to change places with her but the offer was refused. Medic suffered a wound in the a b d o m e n. The security guard, who also acts as a chauf- teur for the mission, was re- morted in serious condition at Lenox Hill Hospital. THE TERRORISTS draped a flag out the window and threw down leaflets demanding free- dom for Croatia. At their insis- tence, a police radio car de- livered some of the leaflets to Kurt Waldheim, secretary-gen- eral of the United Nations. At the climax of the tense events, as the gunmen were be- ing removed from the mission by policemen, there was re- newed drama. A n o t h e r Yugoslav security guard suddenly displayed a ma- chine gun, scattering police, who drew thei rown guns and shout- ed: "Get out of the way." AT THE SAME time, one of the Yugoslavs inside the mission shouted, "Kill them now! They won't get justice!" Police Officer oJhn Varonec- zyk said, "They wanted to kill them right there, right on the spot." Croatian terrorists were in- volved in the hijacking last Sep- tember of a Trans World Air- lines New York-to-Chicago flight which was forced to fly the Atlantic before the skyjackers surrendered in Paris: THOSE ABOARD the plane were not injured. But a New U.N. guard York City bomb squad officer was killed while trying to defuse a bomb left by the skyjackers in a locker beneath Grand Central Station. Three native Croatians and the American wife of one of them were convicted last month in Manhattan federal court in connection with the skyjacking and the policeman's death. A fifth Croatian defendant pleaded guilty. All await sentencing. Yesterday, Joseph Medjugo- rac, employed by a Bronx stor- age firm, was making a delivery at a building on East 66th Street at Fifth Avenue when the gun- men raided the mission. "WHEN WE came up here, we heard the shot around the corner. We looked out there, and there was a man holding a gun out of the window of the second floor," he said. Medjugorac said when police arrived the gunmhn in the win- dow fired two sohts, but no one was hit. STARTS TOMORROW! "But we didn't really expect the results of the inves- tigation to make a big splash." Henry said he thought the work done on the investigation was "very good," but that it did not solve all the problems. He is especially concerned about the vote tabulation in ward one, precinct 11. "There was one more vote counted than the number of voters who used the one ma- chine," said Henry. "The voter has been tracked down but no one could locate her." T H E ADMINISTRATOR'S report says a police investiga- tion shows that the voter in question no longer lives at her registered address, and " a ser- ious error occurred in not col- lecting her application to vote card before she went into the machine to vote." Henry said he was not sure how he would use the investiga- tion in Belcher's law suit. "I don't anticipate that it will play an important part in the law suit, however I think it points out that changes should be made in the way we conduct elections in Ann Arbor, to avoid these kinds of mix-ups in the future." Attorney Robert Grace, who is representing Mayor Wheeler in the law suit, said the investi- gation showed the City Clerk "ran a very good election." "Out of 22,004 votes cast, there is only a problem with one vote," said Grace. "I think that's a pretty good record."
